So when my Elite red ringed I bought an Arcade unit to use in the interim with the idea that I could, in the future, use it to watch Netflix in my bedroom. I got back my Elite unit recently so I have two models available but the hitch I've run into is every time I swap my hard drive between them is I have reauthorize my Elite console even though the Netflix site lists it as authorized.

Some googling led me to believe that it had to do with the prefs on the HD, so I transferred them to Arcade's memory unit and created a new set on my Elite. This only served to reverse the problem - now my Arcade needs to reauthorized when the HD is inserted. I can't use Netflix without attaching the HD to the Arcade unit as you have to be signed into a Gold Account to use Netflix.

BTW, this situation somehow feels typical. All this awesome crap I can do, and I still find a way that it isn't serving my needs.
OK, cue the "You're ****ed" responses.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but why are you swapping hard drives to watch Netflix? Would simply leaving everything where it is work?

And if not, seems to me the only way to get around it is to buy another hard drive.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

The Gold Account is on the HD. You can't copy it, only transfer it.

Here's your answer: Sell the arcade and use that money to buy a PS3 slim.

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

A Roku would be cheaper, but that's missing the point on multiple levels.

The point is you're ****ed with your current setup. BTW, is there a limit on the number times you can transfer your Live account between xboxes? Knowing MS, I wouldn't put this past them.

It's not a transfer since I'm plugging in my HD. And no, there's no limit I know of.

Unbelievably, it looks like there's a workable solution.

Two Xbox 360s, One Gold account, One Netflix account (and system-linking) - The Green Button

Basically I need to buy $10 thumb drive and and move my profile there and I'm set. (And here I never thought I'd use this ability when MS added it in the Spring)

Less moving my HD too, which is great.

I fail to see the reasoning behind switching consoles...

Why not just stick with the Elite and call it good?

How is the answer to that not obvious?

I think I misread the first sentence. It's been a long, beer fueled week.

Not that anyone cares, but after deleting prefs on both systems and a week I can say this appears to work flawlessly. It also has the added bonus of being easier to do than constantly remove/reattach the HD (and making your profile portable if you game at a friend's house).

Never in a million years did I think those **********s would put Netflix on their machine.

...and a bought an AppleTV last year, too. That's a $400 burn. (sort of)

Wow, at $99 I can't pass that up. I'm glad I waited for an update.
