I couldn't stand it, the 2.5 was too tempting given that my 2.0 G5 with a 6800 wasn't shipping until 8/31 so I just called and upped it to the 2.5. Only added 10 days to my ship estimate.. I'm on for 09/10/2004. We'll see if I get it before October.

I'm not-so-secretly hoping that my dual 2.5 + GeForce 6800 order ships early too, not the least of which is because it's an educational order. Because you know, I need that GeForce 6800 for, er, advanced 3D modelling.

As it stands, it sounds like my 8/31 on-or-before date may (for once) be excessively cautious.

Well, I'm still showing "on or before 02/08/04" on my announcement day order and it's driving me up the bleeding wall!

So I'm off to "The Big Chill" to relax, mellow out & generally enjoy the vibe.

By the time I get back on Monday evening there will be a bunch of happy posts, a bunch of grumpy posts or a mixture of the two. Knowing my luck there will also be a note saying "We tried..... etc" on the doormat.

Whatever, I now declare Apple's shipping policy irrelevant (to me, anyway) until my return. Have fun with your speculation and try not to gnash those teeth too much!

Well, I just got an unpleasant surprise when I checked my Order Status page a minute ago. The shipping date now says on or before 08/20/2004. It was 07/30/2004 and I ordered the afternoon of the announcement. Hmmm... this doesn't look good. I'll have to see if I have an email from Apple when I get home.

Mine is a BTO (or CTO) with Bluetooth, Airport Card, and Radeon 9800XT added. I think that's it. Plus I added Applecare and .Mac, but that's just additional products.

Mine also got pushed back to 08/20/2004.

AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

My new 20" display has been here for two weeks now and I don't even have anything that I can connect it to to ensure that it's functioning properly (I say as I watch the return period vanish).

Apple seriously needs to work on their product availability. Too often these new product announcements are more like product road maps (which they don't comment on) since it takes them so long to get any out the door.

I think I'm going to start calling every AppleStore within 500 miles twice a day until I find one that has one.

It sounds like everyone is getting pushed back... I joined the MacRumors forum as well and they have a 20-something page thread here http://forums.macrumors.com/showthre...&page=24&pp=25

They are reporting getting pushed back, too.

I wouldn't be too jealous just yet. Apple might just not have got to his order yet, and it also takes time for the Internet side of their Order application to be updated. Give it another 15 - 30 minutes...

I hope I'm wrong for videan's sake, but I heard/read all orders were being pushed back...

Okay, what's going on here... my shipping date is back to on or before 7/30/2004? I just checked the page twice and emptied my browser's cache between checks. Is some Apple employee having fun playing with it's customer's orders?

I'm off to check another couple of times... I gotta get home and check this out from a Mac instead of a dumb PC (at work).

Wow, this is a new low. Were they holding out hope for a miracle shipment to meet the 7/30th date? Utter BS. This is NOT how you treat your 'elite' customers.

I don't mean to piss people off even more, but I couldn't get enough money together to order a 2.5ghz G5 until almost a month after they were announced. I just got an email saying my order was pushed back til 9/3/04 (only a week later than my origional date of 8/26/04). That is complete bullcrap that all of yours got pushed back 4 weeks! Either they are planning on getting a mass number of G5s next month or my date will be pushed back even further soon

I am on hold, he is "researching" whether they can compensate me, according to him everyone got pushed back, and machines will ship as they become avaliable

will edit this in a minute to give the results

edit #1 they are switching me to another agent, on hold again

Result

was given a option of $50.00 off the price, and asked them if I could have the fastest shipping method as well, she said she could only do one or the other (I took the faster shipping)

Guys, Its very simple either:
1. Apple got last minute order from governemt and/or educational institution (your brand new G5s will be used to teach 5 year olds how to read), no child left behind... remember:-)
2. Apple stores have nothing to show for and they will get their shippments first.
3. Apple/IBM couldn't deliver 3.0 and only 25% of the overheading 2.5 are usufull.

Let me know what you think

P.S. I for once learned my lesson on 2.0DP and did not order from Online Apple Store. I did however call few of the resellers and put myself on the list - I'll strongly recomend you do the same, unless you don't mind waiting till September/October.:-(

If I order a fully loaded, highest priced alienware (with most of the most expensive components) i get a ship date of 8/30. At least i can be CERTAIN that it will be shipped by then, unlike certain other companies

you know, i've been frequenting boards since april and i always here lone apple customers who aren't afraid to say what apple did to them, here's what i gathered:

1) Apple can't ship new items on time: ipods, xserves, powermacs, etc.

2)Apple products seem to have a higher defective rate than pcs (even my sister's first mac, as well as the whole family's, was defective on arrival)

3) I used to view apple as a visionary company and wanted to help their vision, but they seem to consistently screw over their customers....maybe because their customers are diehard loyalists who will always forgive.

4) apple is incredibly aggressive and shows so many of the same signs of why people hate microsoft, it's just that they're not as influential as microsoft yet.

I'm beginning to wonder if my optimism for macs blinded me these past few months... other than for media editing, what good is it? you have to jump hoops just to get some of the pc programs you need as well as other hoops since its market share is a whopping 1-2 %.

I know i'm just angry right now, and perhaps my rationale is blemished. we'll see how i feel in a few hours when I've calmed down.

I've been frequenting these boards since 1999 (finally registered in 2001) and I too have noticed that Apple rarely ships anything on time. I'm used to that though and I have come to expect it. Considering Apple is not the only player in their hardware (ie IBM, Moto, etc.), you cannot place full blame on Apple for not shipping all their products on time.

To say Apple has a higher product defect rate than PC's is stupid, especially if you get your conclusion from these boards. Logically, people with problems post at boards so they can get help. People without problems don't usually post about how well their computers are running becuase it is something they don't need help with.

Apple is aggressive, and they should stay aggressive. Without being aggressive, a business is going to have a hard time competing.

Patience will pay off, it always does.

signed the petition, we need to spam this on every apple page out there, this is getting ignorant....they know outright exactly what they were doing, don't tell them to the last moment, then the time they will have to wait won't seem so long...

man this makes my blood boil, I could have any pc I wanted tomorrow...

I'm glad somebody started this petition and hope it gets attention.

My ship date was just pushed back to 8/20 also; I placed my order on 6/26, and have a custom build, but not the newer chip.

I thought I had gotten a great deal -- taking advantage of the $500 rebate on a Cinema Display, and getting a 90-Days-Same-As-Cash plan. Now I'm locked in -- I can't cancel the order without forfeiting the rebate, and I have to pay for the display and other items that shipped in June within the 90 days, even though there is not a CPU for them to be used with.

I'd agreed to sell my old Mac to a friend's daughter who is going away to college. She won't have a decent computer now, either.

I complained to an Apple customer service person who sympathized and said there have been thousands of university orders for G5s, but said that all orders are processed, "first-come, first-served".
