I would really like a faster PB. But I just cant afford the cost now. An upgrade does seem feasible but I keep hearing rumors that a faster G4 (7457) cant be retrofitted to the mobo of the Pismo- essentially ~550 Mhz is as fast as the G4 is going to get. But IBM is is making faster g3's - like to current model that currently is at 900Mhz. Question will this chip be upgraded to faster speeds and is there a possibility that IBM will make a G3 with altivec like instructions on it and if so does anyone know if this G3 could be retrofitted to the Pismo mobo? That would be sweet.

There is no way someone is going to spend the time and effort to make an upgrade card for the Pismo.

There's not that much space in a laptop to start with, and you'd need a qualified person to open up a laptop and start replacing parts.

Why not buy yourself an iBook G3 on Apple's webpage?

iBook 800MHz/128MB/30GB/CD-ROM/E/56K/12"TFT - Refurbished
$749.99

iBook 800MHzG3/128MB/30GB/CD-ROM/E/56K/12.1TFT
$799.00

iBook 900MHzG3/128MB/40GB/COMBO/E/56K/12.1TFT
$899.00

1.25ghz 15" PowerBook

Nice! I would buy that upgrade card in a heart beat if I owned a Pismo.

Yes, I've always been wondering whether or not the upgrade manufacturers that currently make Pismo upgrades will switch up to faster G3's. I haven't upgraded yet, but have considered it. I think 1gig or faster would finally have me upgrading.

PowerLogix is currently in the process of making a new 1GHz upgrade based around the new 750GX G3 chip. I've been corresponding with them via e-mail and they seem to think it will ship soon.

Here is an ArsTechnica Forum thread discussing it.

There is no way someone is going to spend the time and effort to make an upgrade card for the Pismo.

Wow. Someone who has never heard of Pismo upgrades, in a Powerbook forum, giving "advice."
