Hey,

I have an iPad 4 running the latest iOS, IOS 10, updated... Yet, I checked, and it doesn't show the mobile version of, say, SPIEGEL ONLINE - Aktuelle Nachrichten or www.amazon.de.

I found out that there is Blick and it says it should display the mobile version of the websites on an iPad. They "use" an iPad Air, though.

What the heck? I can't find a button anywhere. No button on the page, no setting in Safari settings.

Strange... Any idea?
Don't suggest using a different browser

Greetings,
PeterParker

I'm pretty sure it's up to the website to sniff what platform you're on and deliver the appropriate version. I can confirm that my iPad Air gets the mobile version of both of your sites. I've run into a few websites that don't give you a choice, too, and it's frustrating as hell.

That's weird. The iPad 4 is a pretty good tablet, though, so far, fast enough, I'm writing long emails on it and texts and everything. Now, I have a reason to buy a new iPad, though, if they display mobile versions of web pages that the iPad 4 doesn't. I'm always condemning them for bad design, now this...

Y'know...I just went to that Der Spiegel link in Firefox on my desktop and it looks pretty much the same as what I was getting on my iPad. I think it's just a one-design-fits-all site.

Some sites have taken the "mobile-first" design challenge a bit far, and made their entire site use a responsive grid that doesn't change much from mobile to desktop. I wouldn't blame the ipad. edit: that spiegel site is not responsive at all, it is fixed width.

Now, if it doesn't load styles at all on the ipad... <looks at new schmancy library overdrive site with disdain>
