Its got me up the wall!!!!!! I need professional help!!!

I have tons of music files which I would like to put onto cds as mp3's. Some have been saved as mp3 and some as m4a and aiff.

I have changed the original files via opening the file names whilst on the desktop and changing to mp3 but when I try to burn an mp3 disk on itunes it tells me I can only copy mp3 files?!!!! (Thus making me think they haven't actually converted to mp3!!)

On each icon it shows as a mp3 file.

I have changed my itunes preferences to import as mp3.

When I play the cd on my mp3 player it doesn't play the m4a files! Even if i produce the mp3 cd on toast titanium

I have hundreds of files I would like to convert to mp3.

I fear it may take a while!!!

Any ideas people.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Changing the filename to have an .mp3 ending is like slapping a Volkswagen logo onto a Volvo.

It might *say* that it's a Volkswagen, but as soon as anybody so much as looks at it, it's kind of obvious it ain't.

m4a and mp3 are completely different encoding formats - m4a (aac) sounds better at the file size.

It won't burn your renamed .m4a files to an mp3 CD because - guess what - they aren't mp3s.

If you want to convert the files so they can be played on your mp3 CD player, you have to select the AAC files in question and then choose "Encode selected to mp3..." from the "Advanced" menu.

Note that transcoding from one lossy codec to another will further reduce audio quality.

Thanks tons for your advice mate, I shall try that right away.

I shall also sit in the corner of the classroom wearing a dunce hat with regards to the changing filename only. I thought it was a bit 'simple' but when the prompt asked if I was sure I wanted to change to an mp3 I believed my mac and said yes!!!

Take care
