Apple on Tuesday re-activated its Apple Events channel for Apple TV owners ahead of the just-confirmed live stream of the Worldwide Developer Conference keynote, scheduled for 10AM PT on Monday, June 8. In addition, the company added a new channels from National Geographic, combining content from both the NatGeo channel as well as the NatGeo Wild channel that includes full shows, documentaries, and more.

The NatGeo channel offers some free clips for non-cable subscribers, but users who authenticate with their cable or satellite credentials will be able to watch full episodes through the service the day after they air on cable. Shows can be organized in a variety of ways, by topic or series name, and Apple TV users will get digital exclusives and other content not seen on cable, similar to the iOS apps for cable subscribers released last fall.

Apple is expected to make a number of announcements regarding existing and new products and services, showcasing recent sales figures and new releases, and offering a first look at the next major versions of iOS and OS X. Rumored announcements should include an expansion of Apple Pay into new countries, a revamping of Apple's Music and iTunes services to re-brand the existing Beats Music subscription service, as well as make significant changes to iTunes Radio, which is expected to change to a human-curated service that features more album debuts, artist playlists and other new offerings.

Sigh...another impotent channel offering for Apple TV that's tied to an existing cable subscription. And now news that we probably have to wait another 6-12 months for any alternative from Apple due to money negotiations.
