Hey Ya'll!

I have a couple questions, I've heard it's ok if your not connected to the internet (at all), to never do updates, the updates are really just for security and safeguards you online. Will my mac run smoothly without any updates if I'm using Leopard...?

It should run fine, but you should try to update it when you get the chance tho.

The only problem I have is, that i use NetZero, and they are truly not highspeed when it comes to the Mac edition. So it takes me 8 hours to do a update that's why I have chosen to stay offline... Even if I do get back online, would it matter if I did updates or not?

While many of the updates are for online security, some are to fix other bugs. It's a good idea to have them, but not really necessary (since they computer 'worked' before the patches were released anyway).

If you're running Leopard it may not run smoothly even with updates, since it's still a beta with the inevitable glitches.

I'm sorry, I'm not running leopard, I'm running, Panther...

It works great except, I can't get it to go to Mac OS 9 from the system prefs...?
Does anyone now how to do this...?

Hello imacguy309, I think he (mduell) meant Tiger! I'm running Tiger 10.4.10 & it's really smooth & fast for me.
I only have a 1Mb ADSL connection but even the slue of Apple updates ranging from 297Mb & less all done in 5 to 6 min's. My niece who is using Panther has always updated the latest patches! Of-course she has cable 20Mb but sometimes her connection is slow at times this is really the fult of the "telecom server" support for Mac, but when she's downloading the updates it's smooth do remember that it always depends on internet traffic. Do go ahead & make those updates you'll find great improvements all round to the system.

P.S. are you going tobe getting the new OS-X Leopard when it arrives?

I don't plan on getting Leapard when it comes out....If it sloos to our town maybe but prolly not if I have to order it...

Do you have access to broadband anywhere else?

You can download the updates separately and just save them to a USB pen drive or CD or something, for use on your iMac later. You can even download the updates on a Windows PC.
