So I just bought a blackbook from newegg. it is shipping today, the same day as the new release. can i return this to apple (doubtful) for exchange for the new model? It's too late to cancel my newegg order, so that's not an option without paying a restock fee. If I get the Macbook i ordered i'll be happy, but if possible I'd like to get the latest offering.

No, you can't return it to Apple. Beg Newegg and see what they'll do for you.

i'd rather not go through that shenanigan. I'm buying a 4gb upgrade for it, so the extra RAM is moot. I'm not sure my wife will ever use the extra HD space the new one offers either. I just thought I'd ask if I could take it to the local apple store and get it swapped, but if not, I'll just keep it.

Why did you get it from New Egg? Not to kick you when you're down, but I would have gotten it from someplace that allows returns without a fee.
That said, the difference between the old and new models is a pretty minor one -- it's more a psychological issue than anything.

saved on taxes and got a free bag...like i said, i'm not mad or anything, and you're right, the bump wasn't major, so i'll just keep it.
