Spliff: We don't want your lame-ass help, France.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/...als/index.html
When asked why the situation would change matters, Levitte said that "no army is allowed by treaties to use chemical and biological weapons. This is absolutely forbidden and if Saddam Hussein were to use these weapons then he would a create a completely new situation for the whole world."
Saddam already used chemical weapons, dumbass.

Looks like the French don't want to be left out, it indicates that they are fully aware of Saddam's WMD arsenal. We shouid be cautious of their assistance. They are hoping that this war will bring about a new world order. A diminished role for the US in Europe. So that France could be the new leader of Europe. They are trying to hedge their bet. I hope President Bush will be cautious of them; "Trust but verify."

besides, the French troops would probably surrender to the Iraqis - and American soldiers would have to go save the French...again.

Well, I guess this answers a question I posed yesterday.
Saddam would have to truly be crazy to use chemical weapons; he stands absolutley NOTHING to gain from such a move.

If you read down a bit in the CNN piece, they say that if Saddam used chemical weapons, they would expect the US to return to the UN Security Council for a decision on what to do and how to rebuild Iraq afterwards. In other words, the commentaries that Chirac may realize that he overplayed his hand might be right. France could be looking for a face-saving way to get out of this mess that would relegitimize the UN (and thus France's role in it).
I suspect Bush would be hard to convince at this (hypothetical) point that Chirac is genuine. But if he is, it would be in everyone's interests to reunite the Security Council - espacially if it means a spreading of the burdens in Iraq.
