Hey you car-heads? Is the BMW M6 ( BMW 2007 M6 Coupe - BMW North America) a nice car? or is it a *really* nice car? I saw one today (parked on the corner of 6th Avenue and 18th Street in Manhattan) and it looked sleek, but in an average kind of way, for an M-series BMW. Thoughts?

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Meh. I'd take one if given to me. For the money I'd go another route.
I own an M3, but I really don't care for the 6 series styling.

I loved the Bangles. Except "Walk Like an Egyptian". That song was lamer than ... well, I just can't say how lame, but pretty lame.

That's a killer engine in there. IMHO, if you're single or your kids are grown up and at school or whatever.. then go for it. If you have immediate family then get the M5 instead.

I love the current gen M3's. Sad to see they are putting a V8 in the series though

The entire M line is tits, boss, etc.
My fav is the current gen M5 with the V10, just a sick sick 4 door. There's one around here with long tube headers on it, are you ****ing kidding me?!
M6:
5.0-liter V10 + Seven-speed SMG + carbon fiber roof
yes, it's probably more of a *really nice* car than a nice car.
somewhere around $100,000 US.

They are a nice car, but a pain to drive. BMW's SMG sucks big time. If you just want a 6 series, get a 650i with a 6 speed. They are quite quick, and more comfy (not to mention you can buy a Civic Si with the money you save compared to a M6).

Been going to the M school for the last 3 years as part of the CCA, I can say that the M5 (which is the same engine as the 6 I believe) is great. The car is just awesome. HOWEVER, it is a luxury four door sedan on Steroids, you're not going to win many road races with it. For me, I love the M3. I had a E46 for 3.5 years (sold it to start saving up for the E92 or RS4), and every year at the M School, the chance to drive them like they should be driven just shows you how nice those cars are. The M3 is much more agile than the M5 (as it should be).... but so much more that its almost no fun trying to throw the M5 around bends. My assumption is that the M6 will behave much more like a M5.
So I guess it really depends on what you're looking to do. I don't know many that get a M5/M6 to track... but I'm sure they are a blast to have as an all around car.
Just my .02 of course.

I've been considering an M5 because I want a family car that still allows me to have fun... I'd agree that the old principle about cars and handling still applies...more weight = less handling...

I'd gut the thing and put a cage in it, roll the fenders, pressurize the engine, full exhaust, 22 gal. fuel cell, fire system.
of course, that's if I had $4,499.00 to spend on a set of headers!!

I love the BMW line. I can not afford any of them, but I'd settle for the 330i. The M5 is okay, but for the money, I'd rather have the Audi RS6 or the Mercedes E55 AMG. But honestly, for less money, I'd much rather have the Charger SRT-8.
