Seems to work for other browsers, though. Tsk, tsk. Faulty JavaScript sniffer, perhaps? Shame on them for not making their site accessible.

Hmm. I am not having any evident trouble in Safari v3.0.4 on 10.4.11, MacBook with 3 GB RAM. Could you please verify as well as provide your setup? What trouble did you into on the site?

Certainly Maryland has had plenty of problems regarding technology. Their horrific experiences with Diebold voting machines are now legendary. And certainly Microsoft have ruined the continuity and reliability of Internet coding by throwing their rubbishware into the mix via IE, JScript, non-standards-compliant-pseudo HTML and FrontPage. But taking a quick look over Maryland's web code I don't see any glaring oddities.

Well, let's see ... I'm on Safari 3.0.4, Intel, Mac OS X 10.5.1, and it doesn't work for me. Camino/Firefox seem fine. Odd. I don't think I have any weird plugins installed or anything. What could be going on, I wonder?

Intel, OS 10.4.11, Safari 3.0.4 fails with "Task 'Unknown' Failed on Startup". FF 2.0.0.12 works fine.

Interesting. Still working here. Well, let's use me as a sort of 'control' for experimentation. Here are details about my setup:

Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11. I do not have the debugger activated in Safari, so the browser is not set to mask itself as anything but Safari.

Safari plug-ins as listed from within Safari, all up-to-date:
- QuickTime Plug-in 7.4.1 - (I'll list my QT components below)
- JoostPlugin
- Adobe Acrobat and Reader Plug-in
- RealPlayer Plugin
- iPhotoPhotocast
- Quartz Composer Plug-In
- Verified Download Plugin
- VLC Multimedia Plugin
- Shockwave Flash
- MoveNetworks Quantum Media Player
- DivX Content Upload Plug-in
- Flip4Mac Windows Media Plugin 2.2
- Flip4Mac Windows Media Web Plugin 2.2
- DivX Browser Plug-In
- Java Plug-in for Cocoa
- Coupons Inc Bricks Safari Plugin

My installed QuickTime Components:
- AC3MovieImport v1.7.6
- AppleIntermediateCodec v1.2
- AppleMPEG2Codec 1.0 (UB version)
- AviImporter-r7 (Intel) v1.0
- CFHCCompressor v1.4.0.43
- CFHDDecomrpessor v1.4.0.43
- DivX Decoder v6.6.0
- DivX Encoder v6.6.0
- EVO v1.3
- Flip4Mac WMV Advanced v2.2.0.49
- Flip4Mac WMV Export v2.2.0.49
- Flip4Mac WMV Import v2.2.0.49
- FLV v2,1,0,494 (don't blame me for the commas!)
- MTM v1.3
- Perian v1.1 (just released!)
- Save as AVI v1.2
- TSCC v0.1
- x264Codec v1.1
- XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha

Other factors: I am big on trashing my cache files on a regular basis. I use AppleJack for this purpose. It works while in Single-User Mode at startup. and virtual memory files I also use it to do minor repairs on my boot volume, including permissions.

I'd be happy to provide other information anyone may consider relevant. Just reply here and I'll get a notification.

Well if changing the user agent to MSIE6 works, then it sounds like just a user agent sniffer being stupid.

Rockville eh? Good luck

My home town... sort of.

Oh, and it seems to be working fine for me (10.5.2 / Safari 3.0.4) - but it looks like you guys already figured out the issue.
