The magic number this time turned out to be 39.2 billion, vs. an estimated 36.8, with iPhone sales more than 5 million over the expected number. Stock bounced back to 600 in after hours trade.

I recall As the Apple Turns used to take guesses for each earnings report, whether it would be profit or loss. I never could imagine earnings being this large!

Like people were saying in the Apple Bubble thread, it's become predictable for the company to outperform expectations like that. I'm not surprised one bit, yet the press reaction to this one seems even better than last quarter.
Also, I noticed there's some kind of nifty forum filter here - I only posted the URL, yet this thing posted the title of the linked page. How'd it do that?

It's a feature. It can look up the title and add it.

Whoever said this is really brilliant:

I could be very wrong, but I'm going to make a bold forecast: I think 2nd Quarter 2012 may not be a good quarter. . .
I think it may be a great quarter. I think Apple may blow out the projections similar to 1st Quarter 2012. Plus, the comps from 2011 are really easy to beat. 2012 comps will be much harder to beat in 2013, but for now we have three more bites of the Apple to accumulate shares during pullbacks and rock the house when Apple beats big.
Oh yeah, that came from me last week (April 19th).

You don't really have to be a genius to figure out that Apple will continue to blow each quarter out of the water. The 2nd quarter will likely see slower iPhone sales due to anticipation of whatever comes next, but it's still gonna be an insane quarter.
