So, Rogers ships the SE790a with two (TWO) ringtones that are actually usable. No doubt another scheme to get you to spend more money. Scheme number one is that you actually have to send in to get your free memory card. Christ, I hate Rogers.

Anyway, I would like to get a normal ring as a ringtone. I've got an mp3 file that would fit the bill beautifully. Unfortunately I can't get the phone to recognize, much less play the damn file.

I did an extensive search on ringtones before posting, but I can't find an answer. Does the 790a play mp3 files as ringtones? If so, what am I doing wrong? If not, what can I do?

Many thanks

Mas, you're going to hate this one.

Rogers did this to you, the regular k790a unbranded will do mp3 ringtone.

But HoFo says that you can do movies as ringtones (go figure.)

1) make a movie in imovie. embed your mp3 into that movie.
2) export the movie, and then use QuickTime to make it a 3GP file.
3) use that 3GP movie as your ringtone.

the other way is to use a Windows machine and the SE software to convert it to a .DM (drm) file.
Sony DRM package manager is the one you want.

Lastly, unbrand it using the asian firmware and that will play the mp3 ringtones.

Me, I'm waiting for apple's phone to materialize. if it ever does.

I figured something like this. I am incredibly pissed off about this and will find out who the Rogers chairman is. He'll be getting a letter that'll let him know in no uncertain terms what I think of rip-offs like this.

Just unbrand it and be done. mobileplanet.com has guides in their support forums. i did my Rogers W810, and it just made it better. It did cost me $10, and I had to use Windows to run the program.

Godspeed with your complaint, and do get back to us should they ever deign to respond.

Branding-castrated phones are ****ing royal ****age, but unfortunately, among contract-bound phones, they are the norm, not the exception.

Expect them to just laugh at you.
