I had to reset my iPod Touch to factory. On restart I noticed that all my applications (software update, not jailbroken) had disappeared. Mail, Notes,Google Maps etc.

Syncing with iTunes is not making a difference here. I can't re-purchase because Apple is telling me correctly that I have already bought the update. However, it is nowhere to be found.

Am I missing something really obvious?

Hmm. Are you using a different computer (to restore from) than the one that you purchased the update on?

Yes, I do. I found the solution, the update is store in application support/itunes.

And of course I didn't copy it across when I moved from the iMac to the MBP. I just fired off a mail to Apple support, asking for a fresh download link. Failing that I'll ask them to sell me a fresh copy.
