It depends on the size of the TV and how close you are sitting. What size are you looking at buying?

Both high def formats are 1080p.
I would get 1080p. It's not that much more expensive these days.

At that size and distance, 720p will look great. You should compare in person and decide if you can see a difference that justifies the price difference.
Both the HD-DVD and Blu-ray players do a great job at up-converting standard DVDs and making them look great too.

If you get a 1080p, don't forget to visit the ophtalmologist, as you'll need a 20/20 vision to watch it.

Might as well get 1080p at this point. You can get a Vizio GV42LF at sears for $950. I was going to get one, except they were out of stock so I got the 47.

Honestly, I wouldn't spend anything extra on it. I doubt most people would be able to tell the difference at all on a TV that wasn't positively gigantic. I have pretty darn good eyesight and I'm not bothered at all by 720p programming.

Most upconverting players I've seen output 1080p, so I still think you should pay the extra money and get full HD.

I would probably always go for a Samsung on an LCD 40"+. You can't go wrong there.

It really depends on what you're going to do with the set... If you plan on ever hooking up any computer to the screen then 1080P will be much better. If you're just going to watch movies then it really doesn't matter.
