Hey guys,

I wanted to call on the MacNN collective to help me out.

So in about a month I'm moving back to Switzerland so I can get my citizenship before my residency permit expires. Plus to spend some time there again (I lived there during my whole teens) and see my mom, friends, etc. I'll be in the Zurich area.

And I'll need a job to get the citizenship.

Anyhow, with the Apple Stores opening there*, the dealers aren't really hiring. (They're planning to "wait it out" and "see what happens." )

I'm looking to do something in the areas of:
  • Mac system administration
  • On-site and/or remote support
  • Sales
  • Systems Analysis

Do you have any leads, or know of open positions?

What I'm not looking to do is just plain repairs, sitting in a lab doing repairs. I'd kill myself after a week.

I'm also considering branching out a bit and doing some freelance work offering both Mac support as well as services related to my other skills, like:
  • English technical editing
  • Presentation editing, coaching
  • English voice-overs
  • General technical consulting (AV gear, telephony, etc)

Anyone got any idea whether that's a good idea?

Thanks for any advice or leads you have!

My experience and education in a nutshell (full resumé is on my website linked below):
  • BA in Information Systems (concentration Business Technology Admin) from UMBC, graduated Magna Cum Laude/3.78 GPA
  • in-progress MA in Information Systems at UMBC
  • Worked at Apple dealers 1999-2000
  • Did on-site Mac support full-time 2001-2002
  • Did part time freelance on-site Mac Support 2002-present
  • Did Mac support at UMBC art dept. Mac labs for about a year and a half
  • Worked at two Apple Stores late 2006-mid 2008, mostly as full-time responsible

Oh and yes, I am fluent in German and Swiss German.

*I already talked to Apple and won't be doing the Apple Store thing again.

tee hee.

No general leads sadly, if you ever want to do some work in Cambridge, UK - let me know ...

I suggest keeping a careful eye on these two (high volume) lists:

&

tooki, I understand why you're being picky, but since citizenship rests on this, I think I'd cast the net a little wider. Take the repairs bench job, get citizenship, and look for better work while you have employment.
