... after opening the box and power it on!
My question is if is necessary format the hard drive and make a clean install of OS X; and if there is a must have software for the power mac (like the one that disable one processor, or a better driver for the ATI 850).
Thank you

Well if it's 'new' you don't have to install any OS. It's there.

Did you buy this used?
You got the ATI 850? jealous...

Get a game and start playing?

Edit:

What are you going to use it for? Work? Play? What sort of Work? What sort of play?
Do you have a decent monitor?

I hear DELL has a sub $1k 24" Flat Panel that screams to be bought... That's what I hear.

I'd bee happy to recommend software. Give me some more info!

Haha you've got to be a Windows switcher No, an OS X preinstall isn't like a Windows preinstall. It doesn't come with the desktop half full of bundled media players and ISPs. It also doesn't come with 50 useless OEM applications for controlling the wireless connections and display settings that you have to uninstall to get the system running cleanly.

Just turn it on and enjoy it. You'll probably be running this install of OS X until the next version comes out.

Well, matpop's signature reads:

Waiting for-> G5 2x2.3 X850 2.5Gb RAM 23" Apple display...............

So he is going to get a stylish display.

Signature shows a 80GB external HD, so get some backup software like SuperDuper!

23" Apple Display... get the 30".

Well, his signature also says 15" PB, and yet he still doesn't know there is no need to reload the OS. Did you do that with the 15" ?

Didn't they tell you anything when you bought it? Did you order it online? From where?

Whacha gonna be using it for?

Work?

- Job
- Types of work

School?

- Major
- etc.

Too many questions!!

First it's true it's not my first mac but it's my first brand new MAC (the powerbook was bought on eBay).

Second: I'm in love with the 30" But here in Europe the price of a 30" is double of the 23" so maybe when I will decide that I need more space I will go for another 23"

Third: I bought online at Apple Store

Fourth: I will use for 3D graphics, video, and some games (wow is waiting for me )

I LOVE MAC

Do you use 3D Studio Max? Viz?

How abou web? There are a few programs to take 3D Studio to the Web as a plugin, or stand alone solutions.

Swift3D - Good things.

Enjoy.
