Greetings.

I will start this off by saying I know nothing about fonts, layouts, design, etc. I am just a mac tech, and we just upgraded our 3 graphic designers to brand new Dual 1.42ghz Powermacs and OS X.

They are having issues with fonts. Yesterday, one was having issues with their Pantone swatches not showing up in Illustrator, so I ran FontDoctor and it told me about 77 of his fonts were bad (they were fine in 9). So I moved them into a folder on the Desktop and everything was fine. I found this solution from this Adobe KB article

Now a bunch of fonts are not showing up in Indesign or any other app even though they are in the user's ~/Library/Fonts/ folder.

Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

What font manager are you using? I used to have serious issues with my fonts and OS X, Adobe applications and Quark. I tried several font managers and found out FontAgent Pro very good. You can download the trial version and try it. Since I'm using it, I have no headaches with any font. Give it a try.

We haven't decided on a font solution for them. I am evaluating them, and truth be told, I think all the solutions for OS X suck.

Suitcase was incredibly unstable, and was giving me issues when I wanted to quit the app or hide it. In short, it wouldn't let me!

FontReserve has by far the worst user experience I have ever seen. The UI is horrid.

FontAgent Pro took down my entire system. That was pleasent.

I miss ATM. Never had a problem.

Suitcase is my solution, but its a pile of crap. Anyway, you can't quit the suitcase application, or it won't work....FYI.

It should disable the ability to hide the application or quit rather than making the menus look like it completed the action and not doing it.
