I am living in Canada, and I am going to College in January. I am planning to buy a MacBook Pro soon (so I can get a free iPod). The prices for MBP's in Canada are about $200 more. However, lately our dollar has been getting very close to the American dollar. If I bought a MBP in the States, I could save roughly $150. Now, my question is, would an Apple store in the States give me an educational discount even though I am Canadian and going to school up here? It just seems unfair I have to pay $150 more for a computer simply since Apple has not adjusted their prices according to the current exchange rate...

Only if you have a friend in the US who agrees to let you use their address to receive the rebate check. US purchased Macs that qualify for the iPod rebate must have their checks mailed to a US address. Sorry.

That only applies to rebates, though - not to discounts, right?

Correct.

That being said, the iPod rebate becomes an instant discount (on top of the student discount) if the OP is willing to drive to Connecticut or Rhode Island, where mail-in rebates are illegal.

Or you can go to Portland, Oregon where there's no sales tax and use that savings to effectively get a free iPod.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Unfortunately I do not know anyone in the US, however I may go to Florida with my girlfriend as she knows some people down there. I don't know if this would help in terms of the free iPod rebate though.

In terms of the educational discount on the actual computer, could I get that while in the States?

Probably.

I'm guessing if you called an Apple Store in the US they'd be more than happy to help you with your question.
