FUTURAMA FANS - buy DVD and maybe we get the show back?

http://www.smh.com.au/news/tv--radio...086846734.html

"He concedes, however, that Futurama's US network Fox "never understood" the show. The series was cancelled in May 2002 and its final episode, the 72nd, aired in the US in August 2003. The end came, however, at a fortuitous time. "We were cancelled just at the time the DVD market blew up and became huge," Cohen says. "It's far and away the No. 1 factor in a resuscitation if we do have one."

family guy apparently is good for something! thanks!

Not gonna happen. Family Guy DVDs are among the best selling ever. Futurama sold well, but not that well. Not even close.

Godfellas is, to this day, among the best 22 minutes of television ever to be broadcast.

Futurama was and still is awsome. But come on guys, you gotta admit that after season 3 (with the exception of a couple season 4 eps that the QUALITY of the show went down the drain. Not sure what happened to the writting, but it seemed to me like they were running out of ideas. The show was losing its edge. It all about Bender, there was harldy any character development. Its sort of like what has happened to the Simpsons....they lost its heart.

Anyway, cutting a show in its prime is a good way to make it into a classic, IMO, which isn't such a bad thing.

Crap shows like family guy, simpsons, futurama, etc, all need to be ended after a couple of seasons. Shows come and shows go, there is no reason to delay the inevitable.

I agree, but years ago is hardly a couple of years into the series. I'd say they should have jumped the shark after season 10.

Then Futurama would be Groening's only show on Fox and it would have picked up when Simpsons left off. If you think about it they had infinite new material with the new future format. I do think season 4 was a little meh, (sans a few hilarious episodes) but 1. 2. and 3 were gold.

South Park is another show with 8+ seasons of hilarity.

Update of Joy!

Talks have begun at 20th Century Fox TV to revive the animated TV show Futurama, much in the same way Family Guy found new life after cancellation, Variety reported.

The studio is in early discussions to put Futurama back in production and create a limited number of episodes of the Emmy Award-winning show, although it's too soon to tell where those episodes might end up.
A few sites are reporting:

I sort of hope they'll do DVD releases prior to bringing it back to the airwaves, or else it may just be axed again, especially if Fox works its magic. The show doesn't have the plebian appeal of Family Guy.

No, while they littered it with some low-brow and normal humor here and there, alot of it was nerdy or a little too clever.

But god help us if there isn't enough "low-brow" entertainment on television. We need more witty tv programing. I find myself watching reruns of The Black Adder on the BBC far to much lately.

Screw that. As much as I love Futurama why do I have to keep pissing away money on DVD's after the show is cancelled for dumb assed Fox to get the idea that it had a huge fan base.

my thoughts exactly. there are some jokes that a lot of people just dont get. I hope they bring it back. And zoidberg is funny. hes not consistently funny but he does get some very funny lines.
still no point buying dvd's just to send a message. If i did that with every series or movie i wanted continued id be out about $300.

I keep buying movies on DVD and I keep wondering, "Will they re-release all this sh*t in HiDef? Will my collection be worthless?"

Yes they will BUT shows like futurama is not filmed in high def in the first place so there is not point.

I am not buying any more BSG on DVD though as after watching it in HD it makes the DVD's look like total ass. HD is at least 3x better than DVD's in resolution.

Blu-ray is going to make a big push this year and I am going to be all over it.

Actually there are 2 HD-DVD fans here but they aren't even quite sure why.
