I'll just add a few words on my Ph. D. (Philosophy of Dock, of course):
- Placement: bottom. Occ. left or right, but bottom works best for me. Visibility: visible, but when working in design apps, or occ. when it just gets on my nerve, I'll hide the thing. Hacks: ClearDock, to reduce opacity of the Dock background by about 10%.
- Current range of apps, pretty solid, though changes slightly every so often. Mozilla is about to go, I think (Chimera is now just clearly better).
Grouped (generally) by use and category: E-mail & web / design / text & writing / system.
- Apps triangle on the Dock's right-hand side is a folder of aliases for apps used fairly often but not perhaps on a everyday basis. Grouped by category - Design, Internet, System, etc. In this folder is also a alias to my bona fide Applications folder, if I feel the need to tunnel throug everything instead of using Column view.
- The folder to the right is just an alias for Documents. Don't care for the official Documents icon; haven't bothered to hack it using CandyBar or equiv. methods yet.
- Pile of papers to the right is a folder for a collection of some often accessed documents (to-do list, phone numbers, etc).
Other often-used apps like iCal, OmniOutliner, and Address Book are launched by hot keys. They could almost go in the Dock, but they're not open long usually, and I prefer to keep things clean.
More than you needed to know?

How do I post a picture? If I click on the insert image button, nothing happens. I've tried with both IE and Chimera. Am I doing something wrong?

I love having my Dock at the upper-right corner of the screen. It just makes more sense there, IMO.

By the way; where did those Dock dividers come from? Those'd come in handy.

I used to have it vertical, until I got a second monitor and didn't want it alllll the way on the right side of the rightmost monitor. Where are all my other apps? Why, in my DragThing dock, of course.

I'd like to know this as well, I desperately need to divide my dock into at least three sections.

I don't think I have one stock icon left on my computer. I like to switch them all!
Finder, Pic2Icon, Flame, Chimera, Mail, PresentMovie, X-Charge, NightVisionX, Stripper(ResourceForkScript), Photoshop, MemoryStick, TextEdit, Preview,, ApplicationsFolder, DogPhotos, Trash.

However, this is but a tiny portion of my Dock. Don't let this fool you...my Dock is bigger than yours!!!

The gardient you see actually isnt a gradient at all, but rather a shadow from the naviagator window, ive never really noticed it before until i took the shot of it.
much easier to get to the app i need now.

Excuse me if this is a dumb questions...
The dividers that are used in the dock...are those just images or is that a dock feature? I've looked all through the dock preferences and have found nothing. I tried a click + [insert any key here], but no special menu pops up for formatting/organizing the dock.
What am I missing. If it is an image, could someone please provide a link to it. I'd like to organize my dock a bit better. Thanks.

Here's mine. Nothing unusual except I use stickies and no one else seems to use it. I also don't put ImageReady in the dock because usually I'd use the Photoshop -> ImageReady button.
