Hey guys,

I'm trying to install Visual Basic 6 on my virtual machine, but it says something about not running 16-bit software. Two of my friends have installed it successfully on their respective virtual machines, but somehow I can't get it to work.

Anyone mind giving me a hand?

Thanks in advanced,
Hg+

What OS is your VM running? Fusion should do whatever the OS is capable of in this area, so if you're running an OS that isn't backward compatible with 16-bit apps, then you're stuck.

But I thought that VB6 was a 32-bit app...

I am running Windows XP SP2. The curious thing is that with the same install disk I was able to instal it on Boot Camp. Sadly, I have to reboot in order to work on Visual, which I hate.

I created a virtual machine from my Boot Camp partition, but it keeps asking to install a PCI-to-PCI bridge driver.

I think I'll ask one of my friends for a copy of their virtual machine, but I'm still curious why I cannot install Visual and they could.

Fusion should provide a virtual driver for the PCI bridge-maybe there's something funky about your Fusion install...

I thought there were apps converting a Bootcamp partition to a Fusion VM.
Maybe converting would make it work with Fusion.

Have you googled for that ?

turtle, VMware Converter is what you're thinking of. One can run it on a physical machine and it'll convert it to a VM.

Actually Fusion has a built-in converter that lets you convert the Boot Camp partition to a virtual machine.

I upgraded to version 2.0.2 and the PCI driver issue still persist. I did a Windows clean install and I'll check later if I can finally get Visual up and running.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Boot Camp is a physical machine. What specific menu item (built-in) converts Boot Camp to a VM without having to download and run VMware Converter?

When I selected the Boot Camp partition, an Import button showed up.

I found this image online showing the Import option.

Edit: The guy who took the screenshot was having trouble with the import, but mine worked just fine.
