Man, thank god I filled up my bike the other day.

And 'bike' I mean bicycle, and by 'fill up' I mean eat my morning breakfast.

I filled up for $2.37 this morning.

I fear the ensuing fuel shortage may make some people desperate.
I've resorted to carrying my pistol again.

I went to Costco yesterday, not for gas, and I was suprised and amused by the long lines for the pump. One car was in line when I went in the store and still there on my way out. Even if one has to fill a 50 gallon tank, waiting 30-45 minutes to save $5 seems a little out-of-whack.

um... this is just beginning of rising prices. i am sure at least some of you have heard of "peak oil". this is cheap compared to what it is going to be in the next couple of years. here is an article about it. it is a bit sensationalized but it gets the point across.

They're already spiking in a few stations in the Metro-East, King Bob. I don't know where you are, but over in Carlyle and Breese (IL) the Shell staions went to $2.79/gal Reg. early this AM. Some of the other stations did not follow suit and stayed at $2.59/gal.

The only problem I have is that the price of oil rising increases everything else, I would rather pay more for my personal use $5-6/gal and have industry, transportation, etc. get a better rate to keep prices down.

I think at $2.70/gal it is still a deal, when you figure Milk is $3.50 gal.

True dat.

Just consider people paying $ 1 for a 12oz Dasani water. That's $ 10 per gallon

What the hell is Bush waiting for...our Gulf oil production and hurricane relief call for release of oil reserves. Just hearing that the option of fuel rationing is a possibility.

Yeah, same at Sonic's; letting their engines run for 30 min while eating their lunch.

Really? I just left a meeting in downtown St. Louis about 2 hours ago and regular was $2.39 for reg and $2.69 for premium. I crossed back into IL and it was $2.69/$2.89 by Fairview Hts. Has it been less than $2.39 the past 2 days?

I would've stopped in STL for gas, but it was in a bad neighborhood, and a few cents isn't worth getting mugged or worse.

Opening up the reserves takes a few days. I'm sure he and his administration are on top of it.

However, the problem is not with crude supply; the problem is with our reduced refining capacity. If this doesn't illustrate the need for more refineries - which we haven't built for decades due to leftist obstructionism - I don't know what will.

I filled up at 2.39 at the corner of Olive and 270 yesterday. When I went back today (after work), it had spiked.

But then we'd have to put military bases there and all the American soldiers would come home not pronouncing their "o"s and saying "eh?" all the time. That's a hassle not worth dealing with.

But think of all the moose we could import that way! Moose in exchange for a few 'eh's every now and then is ok in my book.

Well since MORE people buy regular, it's pretty obvious why it happened.

As far as around these parts, no one was rushing to the gas stations. No one ran out of gas, and gas is still the same price it has been the past two weeks.

Between $2.30 and $2.85

Depending on what gas you get.

If it's idle, it isn't using much gas at all. You do know it takes a lot more gas to start up a car shut it down, and start up again, than keeping it running for a few minutes right?

Reminder: gas prices are still lower than they were in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Remember to adjust for inflation, people. You always have to compare prices in constant dollars.

Here is a link to an inflation calculator. $3.00 is $1.18 in 1980 Dollars. For example, on August 31, 1980, gas was $1.2770 a gallon (in 1980 Dollars). Link That would be $3.34 in 2005 Dollars. And that is data based on the price in Texas. Texas is a state with fairly low average gas prices. I.e. it's not California or the North East.

Don't play the media hysteria game and forget your basic economics.
