I was wondering what most people here use their Macs for. Just out of curiosity.

I use it for server work, photography a little graphic design - just enough to maintain my web pages and of course the ubiquitous home tasks, surfing, personal finances, etc

The server work is done via vpn and vmware fusion, as I need to windows to connect to work and maintain the servers and the applications on those servers

Web design, photography, and the obvious home use.
Sometimes I use it for work stuff, but not that often. When I get an intel Mac I will probably use it a lot more with VMWare for work.

Home.

Soon I'll be starting a business, so I'll get a new Mac for that. Mainly doing accounting and admin on it.

I myself use my work computer for mostly graphic design. And MacNN interwebbing.

My home computer I watch movies on from time to time (love the 22" LCD for that) and play online monopoly, or admin an IRC channel. (so much fun... asl ctc?)

Most of the time however, I don't mess with my home computer unless it's the weekends. Spending all day on my computer at work just doesn't make me want to jump right on it when I get home.

I usually watch some movies with the ole lady, or mess around with recording. (I have a 8track recorder along with a computer I use)

writing. video editing, CGI work (attached to a renderfarm of Macs), the internets, also have 5 Xserve file servers and a cluster of 10 more Xserves for DNA research. I love these machines!

edit: oh, and of course my 200Ghz for SETI!

My 466Mhz clamshell sits on my coffee table pretty much all the time. I use it for chatting, surfing, sometimes writing in Journler, and I'm trying to collect various family recipes and cooking instructions in iCuistot. I've got a few games on there, too.

It's so slow, though, that I mostly just chat in Adium and don't do much else.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

All of the above, though my music skills are seriously lacking. But it's helping as a useful learning tool for the guitar.

Video editing is a big part of the G5s use around the house. Music editing too, mostly Vinyl clean-up.

I used to do school work (Electronic Imaging major) solely on my G4. Video work, 3D modeling, etc... I guess I'm antisocial since I hated working in the Mac lab...even if they had G5s.

Now I just browse with it, burn DVDs, touch up photos in PS, and sync my iPod to it. Since I've stopped going to school the need for a new machine is out the window, my G4 does everything I actually need it for now (except for Flash, which bogs my computer to unusable levels)

Musak + MacNN + pictures of things + TV + maintaining a list of people who have wronged me so that one day I will pass their details onto my mafia friends who will cause mischief in their refrigerators.

Web design, graphic design, moving graphics, animation, photography, video editing, sound mixing and music.

Stereotypical mac stuff

At home I use it for web surfing, as a "TV" (bittorrent ftw), and games on my mac, wintendo and wii.

Needs "Everything" or "All the above." The only computers I use are Macs, so pretty much every computing need I have gets taken care of on one. I use mine for surfing the web, chatting, video production, light Photoshop, and recording live music.

If I ever find somebody who uses iPhoto to organize their porn, I think I will literally die laughing. It will be a good death.

All the home usage - my MacBook has to do all the things from musicbox to video and picture archive, TV, movie station, for Internet, Email, Communication, cutting videos, and and and...

And it has to be the working machine for concepts, texts and books i write. :-)

The digital hub idea works for me, it seems. :-)

It's just so…obvious. Most people hide their porn in a folder called "Incredibly boring tax documents" or something.
