One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Awesome list, brings back a lot of memories here.
Where is the thread photoshopping Carly Patterson?

My submission.
This is when Ca$h "left," back in 2001. This was around when I first started visiting MacNN, and I remember getting in trouble for reading a thread titled "Blow Me" in school, because it was obviously full of sexual content.

What we need is some noble soul to take these threads, remove the non entertaining posts, and repost them so that we don't have to read each and every post

I think you have to include some of the Abe threads in this list, gentlemen... Maybe the Ana Benson or David Bowie one? What others of his were epic?

I always thought that someday I would write bots to simulate the absences of some of our most beloved famous MacNN posters. Some would be pretty hard, but some would be fairly easy.
For instance, Todd Partridge (and I'm assuming I can refer to him by name here because i don't think there was much evidence that he was more than a bot himself) would be fairly easy. I think you could just copy and paste stuff from his old posts, it wouldn't really matter what sequence you put the stuff in, and you could make up your own bizarre nearly incomprehensible sex cult ramblings and just sort of randomly spew stuff out.
One of the other bots would either pick a hot political subject and argue it as passionately and narrowly as possible, being sure to call opponents losers, or else pick the trashiest tabloid type story where somebody does something horrifically stupid and argue it passionately, as if we are all supposed to get as caught up in this stuff as the poster is - preferably involving celebrities. I think this would be the second easiest to write.
One of the other bots would be absolutely relentless in picking apart arguments, parsing them to the point where it would be easier just to let them go, attempt to psychoanalyze you, always refer to you by your first name in most posts, offer weak concessions that are intended to help boost its own arguments by making it appear sympathetic and reasonable, and persevere until everybody else is worn out and it is the last bot standing.
I think the hardest bot to write would be the one that writes these long, rambling political quasi-intellectual posts full of metaphors and analogies where at the end of it it still hasn't really said much, and is not actually interested in a conversation but is mostly interested in the poetry of its own thoughts. This bot is also known to jump in on really weird celebrity tabloidy type stuff too that is hardly worth the emotional investment, and is great at the copy and paste of other people's arguments.
Another bot would be sort of an automatic stream-of-consciousness blogger, and another somebody always picking fights and being aggressive.
Of course, I could probably write a bot for my own postings. Part of the time it would be weird and incomprehensible posting about stuff like Sulu, Steve Guttenberg, etc. the other times it would be posting brilliant and awesome stuff, and the other times it would be helping people with tech problems. I think it would be easy to write the Sulu part, but damn near impossible to write the rest. MWAHAHAHA!! I can never be replaced, losers!

It isn't as old as some of the threads between Cody Dawg and WDlove, but Salty coming out was a big event here. The few months leading up to it were anyway, when it finally happened I don't think too many of us were surprised.

Who was that kid that kept talking about how depressed he was, and posting lame pictures of himself? I think he was ridiculed out of here 4 years ago.
And this may be the same person, but there was some kid named PowerbookKid or something like that who kept making rather bizarre posts.
And yeah, the Cody/WDLove posts got on my nerves.

Oh, he knew it was a joke. Problem is, it was much easier to defend the false "I couldn't tell you were joking" position than the real "I willfully used an obvious joke to spew some more inane opinions everyone has heard from me before" position.

What is this red you speak of? The only thing I know of to make a thread (or your eye balls) pop is more lens flare.

Doubtful.
His forum persona was *extremely* literal-minded.
No sarcasm, no metaphors, no allegory, no symbolism, and above all, no context.

Wow - that's pretty harsh.
And completely ignorant. People get divorced for a variety of reasons. I, for one, was extremely relieved when my parents finally split up after more than a decade of abject misery.

Wasn't zigzag the bloke who offed himself 'coz he got caught up-skirting young ladies?

Actually, I think he was charged with sexual relations with a minor (an underage girl).
How does that have anything to do with his ability to criticise Rob for Rob's harsh comments to someone else?

All of the original linked news articles are gone, but I only remember something about video-taping underage girls in public.

I was looking through some old files on my desktop last night and I came across a folder with every image from the Carly Patterson photochop thread. Don't ask me what I was thinking when I saved them all (when it comes to computers I am like a digital pack rat). If anyone has a desire to see them or host them PM me or reply and I will send you them.
