Miriam Geller showed the next version of Director for the first time. It's not formally announced yet, so there's not yet an estimated ship date or published feature set. It was running in Mac OS X native as well as Windows, and used an MX-style interface. SWF launch-and-edit was shown... just as you can use Fireworks within Dreamweaver and don't have to manage different sets of authoring and deliverable files, Director can invoke Flash to directly edit embedded SWFs... faster, smoother. Screen reader accessibility was shown which does not require a dedicated screen reader, it's all built into the app, cross-platform, with control over which items are read and in what order. This is also pretty close to delivery, although I haven't seen a ship date committed to in print yet.

Ported? Are Macromedia laying off their Mac programmers?

No wonder that Flash Player is terrible.

Ported! By an external company! The Mac version isn't an afterthought then. Games and the like I can deal with being hacked ports, but not major Multimedia apps. I hope this is not a sign of the future from Macromedia.

Well, AFAIK they ported it from MacOS to OS X, not from Windoze to Mac. MM has been going increasingly windows-centric in the last years; their software (DW, FW, Flash player) generally runs much faster and smoother on Wintel IMHO. How much of this is due to Wintels superior architecture and CPU speed, and to OSX' overheads due to eyecandy floss, and how much to MMs better coding for the platform, I don't know.

Anyway, if you feel bad about it, try this Note the URL: at least they seem to have quite a bit of experience.

Funny thing is, though, that MM seem to show off the interface features with a mac rather than a windows interface most of the time. And that's despite the Aqua-fied version being absolutely horrid.

Well, at least they seem to have gotten rid of the strange pseudo-3D tab interface they have in FW and DW (as a result of the Adobe<->MM lawsuit).
