This is a pretty general question but.... I brought my Macbook pro to school today and it wasn't finding any wireless networks. However, a person sitting across the classroom was using a Dell laptop and she was picking up a wireless network just fine.

What would be the reason for this? Could the network be a 802.11a network?

I ran out of time to get to question her, but I doubt she would know the answer herself.

go to versiontracker.com and download iStumbler. You use it to identify names and signal strength and encryption protocols of wireless networks. Hopefully, your school's wireless networks are open? Then, you use Internet Connect to choose the "Other" network, where you type in the name you've identified in iStumbler.
