Several months ago My wife and I bought a Nikon D80. It's hers. She loves photography, and this camera has been great. Christmas is coming up and I need to get her some gifts. One thing she's requested is a camera bag. We don't have anything to carry it around in at the moment, which makes a bit nervous.
I'm interested in one of those bags that's hard, and camera shaped. Protect the camera, but don't take up space. At the moment she's not carrying any lenses other than the stock (18-135mm or something)
I need a suggestion for a bag, and any other must-have accessories for cameras.
thanks in advance.

My stupid iPhone game: Nesen Probe, it's rather old, annoying and pointless, but it's free.
Was free. Now it's gone. Never to be seen again.
Off to join its brother and sister apps that could not
keep up with the ever updating iOS. RIP Nesen Probe.

How about an external hot-shoe (?) flash. That's what I got my wife one year for Christmas.

i'd suggest a bag that allows you some room for growth. i say this because
1) she'll eventually want more lenses
2) so she can carry around a flash
3) speaking from experience, it's better to have a bit more space than is currently needed
i have 5 camera bags. that's right, 5. and only one camera. personally, i'd go for something that doesn't look all that much like a camera bag. i like my newest bag - the crumpler brazillian dollar home. no really, that's what it's called. but they have several slick looking smaller offerings to choose from.

Yeah, my camera bag is a $2 bag I got at a market in Kuala Lumpur. Nice and inconspicuous to carry around a 5D in

yes yes yes. An external hot shoe flash. It's one of the best accessories I got for my digital rebel. Make sure that it communicates with the camera for exposure, focal length, etc. And get a diffuser with it.

Pelican, I wouldn't call it a bag but you can't really find a tougher safer enclosure to store your camera. Plus you get the best looks when going through security at airports/museums with it. I have the 1300 for my 20D.

But other than that, what about a remote? That's on my whishlist, but of course I don't know if she misses one.

I have a backpack that is made for my camera. I can store everything in it, including extra lenses.
The other great gift, a really nice set of picture frames. Then she can print out photos she likes and frame them immediately!

Other must-have accessories for the D80:
1. Remote release (either wired or infrared for the D80, both <$20). If she uses a tripod and doesn't have a wired release already, she'll appreciate it.
2. Polarizing filter (get the filter diameter off the lens, $50-100).
3. Nikon SB-600 or -800 flashes ($200-300, allow for on- or off-camera [infrared-triggered] flash photography).

A skylight filter she can keep on the lens as a dust plug.
A teleconverter.
I'll second the shutter release.
An Aperture license.
