Hi all,

I'm looking for a CGI program that will search a simple flat ascii database in the format of:

Name|Type|Service1|Service2|Package1|Package2|Meal Plan1|MealPlan2

But I need to search it in 3 drop-down menus, like this:

<form>
<select name="">
<option value="">Search for a...
<option value="Motel">Motel
<option value="BB">Bed & Breakfast
</select>

<select name="">
<option value="">That has...
<option value="pool">A pool
<option value="NS">Non-Smoking rooms
</select>

<select name="">
<option value="">And includes...
<option value="CB">Continental Breakfast
<option value="RO">Room Only
</select>
</form>

Basically, each drop-down menu would have to have the ability to search all fields. The results would have to be based on the selections from the 1st AND 2nd AND 3rd menus. What program can do this?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

What's your server and OS?

There's about a gazillion and one ways of doing this. Which way is best for you depends somewhat on the server platform you're running and somewhat on your technical expertise.

Almost any server is going to support perl cgis, meaning you can write a perl script to do what you describe. However, you'll need to understand perl to make that happen.

Same thing with .php, if you understand the PHP syntax.

There are specific third-party products that may be able to do this. They may be a lot easier to implement but will probably only support specific server/OS combinations.

At the end of the day, something like perl or .php is probably going to be the solution - if your server supports them.
