It was very funny. But, I'm a little ashamed of my fellow countrymen. The Top Gear tough guys travelled to another country, deliberately baited the people there so they could laugh at them, then crapped in their pants when the locals did as predicted. Everyone knows the South of America has a horrible reputation.

I've no doubt it was edited to make it more exciting, but I don't believe that charmless, glib, Clarkson can act that well.

I laughed. But joining in with the class voyeurism left a bad taste in my mouth.

Next week - The boys drive around Iran in a Cadillac Escalade, with a sound system on the roof, reading aloud from "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie.

I suspect the reason they used "rubbish" rather than "crap" is that it is funnier, in the UK anyway. Sounds more like a childish insult a six year old would use, and just sounds more British and therefore incongruous to use in America. The "lost in translation" thing was intentional. I'm sure "crap" is acceptable pre-watershed (i.e. before 9pm) on British TV. "Monkeyspunck" isn't however.

oh now come on.... be fair, how can those poor yanks afford to help these disaster stricken areas when they've spent so much cash on bombs an bullets, building a Mcdonalds on every corner, and employing tip top lawyers to cover up friendly fire incidents. their cupboard must be pretty bare. I'm not saying any other country is perfect, its just the U.S. is a microcosm of all that is wrong with the world.....the uk going the same way unfortunately, the human race is less civilized than its ever been.

I watched this episode, and while making fun of ignorant hicks is funny, they sorta came across as complete assholes. I doubt they'd like it if a few americans drove around in Europe with similarly offensive slogans, and acted like America was #1. We may have shitty car companies here, but at least we have some. TVR is dead now too.

How do they manage to get such a low amount of horsepower from a car?

It is not like they wrote "American's are all assholes" though.

I don't think there is any real excuse for having rocks thrown at you because you don't like stupid Nascar or because they think you are gay.

Gee, don't be so touchy. Every single time he tests a German car, he does two things: (i) mention WW2 and (ii) claims, they have beautiful built quality, but no heart
I still find that Top Gear has its moments.

Also, there are Americans who do just that …

Uh, yeah there is. They were trying to start a fight. If I drove to a gay parade with 'fags aren't really people they should all burn in hell" I'm pretty sure I'd get rocks thrown at me, too.

Ado is short for Adrian, in Australia people like to put "O' at the end of everything... eg. Davo, Johnno...

What are you implying Kevin?

I suggest the easy method: looking at the date the thread was posted and reading the first post.

The show was broadcast in the UK on February 11, 2007.

This place will help you out: top gear uk episodes february 2007 - Google Search

That was one of the most funniest episodes. I live in florida where is was filmed mostly and I didn't find it offensive at all. As for thos Brits who are talking about how bad america is right now. Your speaking the truth hopefully Obama will become president and set the US on the right course. If not UK or Ireland will become my country.

Also please forgive us for Alabama, its really not a state we like to talk about.
