My new PowerBook has inspired quite a number of purchases already, including a macally optical mouse. But I was at the local shop today and lo and behold, they had this MacMice mouse. I had seen it online but then read a lot of scary things about MacMice so I didn't want to order it. But seeing it locally, I shelled out the $60CDN. Couldn't resist.

Pros:

Proper length usb cable. This is a majorly important thing that a lot of manufacturers screw up. My macally mouse had a huge freakin usb cable that was totally unnecessary, seeing as our keyboards have USB ports right on them. This MazcMice cable is the perfect length and thus does not clutter my desk or get caught up on itself.

Looks. Who can argue with 'em? It looks fantastic. Just like an apple mouse but with two buttons, implemented in a very interesting way, and an unobtrusive scroll wheel. The red glow underneath when it's in use is nice too and not too over the top.

Responsiveness. I don't know what the specs are on this but it fels very smooth.

Cons

Only a couple so far, both of which may just be because it's brand new. The mouse clicks are fairly loud and the scroll wheel is stiff. I'm counting on both of these easing up with use but time will tell.

Conclusion
All in all, I like it a lot. My macally mouse will be taken to work where it will live out the rest of its days as "the other mouse."

Yep I've read that before. If this other mouse was availavle (and certainly if it was cheaper) I would have bought it. But it wasn't so I didn't.

...and a little embarrasing.

Thanks for the review. I've had my eye on the black version of this mouse, to compliment my Apple Pro Keyboard. Nice to see it's working fine.

Regardless of what people may think of MacMice's management, you can't deny a great product.

My mistake. Glad you like the product. I still don't trust the guy, but I'm glad to see you were happy with the mouse.

What's embarrasing about making sure people are aware of this merchant?

They had a few MacMice products there actually. They had the G5-look iPod holder thingy. It all seemed to be manufactured well and was no more expensive than other manufacturers' products.

One thing that bugs me about the mouse (or perhaps OSX's implementation of scroll wheels?) is, well... the scroll wheel. It has very well defined notches but OSX seems to respond only to every second notch, as though there's more sensitivity built into the mouse than the operating system can handle. It gives the impression that the scrol wheel is "slipping". Does that make sense?

Anyways, didn't mean to start an argument. Just wanted to give a newbie switcher's review of this mouse.

I did just now. I have to admit- I like the design of this mouse. But it doesn't seem worth the risk. Is "Jack" the only vendor that carries this particular style mouse - or is it just a rebadge of a different product?

Those 2 mice are obviously different products. "The Mouse" has no LED in the scrollwheel, and the line that divides the 2 mice is different. The Mouse has just a slim line dividing the two halves, while the other has a curved "ditch" in the middle.

He has a similar product, granted, but it isn't the same one.

EDIT: Here's another review of The Mouse. http://www.macsonly.com/index.html#12241

Seems like everyone has nothing but good things to say about it.

I had heard bad things about MacMice too. So when I ordered my SightFlex, I was a little concerned. Look at this email trail (from Fri Nov 14 at 8PM PT; the weekend in anybody's book):

Hi xxxxx,

I'm at home and can't access a tracking number, but your order shipped via FedEx Ground on Wednesday. California's usually a 3 to 5 business day deliver time.

Hope this helps.

I received it on Mon, or maybe even on that Fri, w/o my being aware of it, I can't remember now. Anyway, I bought a great product from him at a fair price and got EXCELLENT customer service. I'm going to buy one of these mice (it's different from the crystal mouse, which I had for a while) and an iFlex as well from him.

I stopped by the MacMice booth at MacWorld Expo and almost bought one of these mice. I asked one of the employees if a bluetooth version was available and he said it will be coming out in March. They only had the white version of the mouse on sale but I saw a chrome and a light grey versions on display.

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!
