I've recently swapped a DVD burner into my 15" PowerBook; it's got firmware revision D064.

I've been reading that the 17" PowerBook ships with the same drive (some say with rev. B) with the firmware at DWDB.

Is there a firmware updater? Is this something which is done only at Matshita?

I'm really wishing to hear that someone has an updater that properly checks the revision of the drive and, if appropriate, actually updates the firmware. Burning CDs at 16x and DVD-RW would really be nice...

Hmmm... Not D0C4? So far I have seen nobody with D064.

If it is D064, have you tried DVD-RW burning?

Is this one of those MCE drives? Which PowerBook?

And don't forget to post in the UJ-815 firmware thread.

You're right; D0C4. Sigh.

It's a unit I swapped into my 15" 800 MHz TiPB.

(I was really pissed off that Apple refuses to provide a firmware updater to fix the bug(s) which prevents Retrospect from actually burning disks with the provided CD-R and always wanted to do some family DVDs...)

I read that thread, but didn't see any answer whether there are updaters. I could use a faster burn speed and DVD-RAM, as could a lot of other people.

I tried emailing you, Eug, but you've got email turn off in your prefs.
