I have an iMac g4 with a broken LCD screen. The computer works just fine, the dvd player and everything are in good order. Will the computer work if I take the screen off (The entire neck assembly and stuff) and use an external monitor through the external VGA port with the adaptor? Basically it would be like a g4 Cube wouldn't it? Any advice would be help

I'm not sure, but dont Airport anteanas and the internal mic run through the neck? I'm not sure and I haven't read anything on it, but I would think that this would be the case.

I'm also pretty sure the ol' sunflower has Airport aerials in the screen, and the mic is definitely in there, its the little pinhole you see on the bottom of the screen frame.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

You could always just buy a new LCD off ebay.

So I took the screen off, carefully, the airport antenna survived, just took some patience to remove it from the housing, and route it out a different way. So yeah, It's hooked up to a plain ol' CRT monitor and works great. It is however limited to 1024x768 resolution. I couldn't be more pleased. It is super quiet and working!!!

I'm guessing it is a 15" iMac if it is limiting the resolution to 1024x768.

I know there was a hack to get spanning working on iBooks. Also allowed for higher resolutions on the external monitor. I think it also worked on the iMacs.

I'll dig around for a link.

Edit: Here you go... http://www.rutemoeller.com/mp/ibook/ibook_e.html

Should get you up to at least 1280x1024 plus give you a few more options for the refresh rate since your using a CRT.

just be careful you don't lose the mouse in the area that would be for the onboard lcd.

and make sure that you drag the menubar over to the crt in the spanning prefs as soon as you enable this. otherwise, you might be pretty stuck.

Unfortunately the iMac 15" does not qualify for the patch unless it is the 1 GHZ model. But it is doing just fine. Thanks
