I will soon have an extra 100MB int ZIP from a beige G3 266MT. I would like to replace the floppy in my brother's 5200 w/this.
Is this possible? Will the conections work (I think the conection is ATA/ATAPI)?

Be careful because that Zip may be SCSI depending whether the G3 was an earlier model.

Umm I doubt it. The 5200s, AFAIK, do not have two IDE channels, so the only existing channel is taken up already by the hard drive and CD-ROM drive.

Not to mention that the floppy slot is too thin for a Zip disk...

I can get the zip into the Mac-but the opening is too small. For that I plan some plastic surgery (it wont look stock, but it wont be ugly either).
Realisticly, is there any way to use/modify the floppy connection on the zip?

I think that connectors are different shape. Just get an external version of the drive....

Can I get adapters?
I will not have to pay any extra for this drive.

only floppies work on the floppy cable...specific controller
looks like your IDE is full too, with an IDE HD and CD....sounds like you're SOL for the 5200
if the zip is SCSI you may be able to tap into the external SCSI with a modified cable.
bummer...just looked at the motherboard and it's a slide-in like the 550, think you're outta luck on this one

I went back and checked...I was wrong, the zip is connected through a SCSI connection. Yeah!! There's hope.
I wont be around the 5200 for a week or so, but I will pursue the possibility of connecting to the external bus.
Thanks

keda,
if you decide you can't get that zip in the 5200, i will trade you a SCSI external zip for the SCSI internal. e-mail me if you're interested. been wanting to replace the floppy in my 8500 with a zip but can't justify another drive(i have 4 external zips deployed in different systems already)purchase.
