Computer screens are meant to be bad for your eyes because of the flicker. What about the LCD screens on the MacBooks?

"Are meant to be"? What in the world does that mean? It's some evil conspiracy by ophthalmologists to sell more glasses?

CRTs are basically shooting light in your eyes that flickers on and off at the screen's refresh rate (60Hz, 75Hz, etc.). LCDs have a constant backlight, so there is no flicker.

I suffer from bad vision and slight color blindness in one eye and migraines since the days of CRT. I have to code CSS with one eye.

It's a valid, idiomatic wording for the context.

You lack sprachgefühl.

Staring at a light bulb for hours on end is not great for your eyes on matter what other technology is involved. However, LCDs are generally less harsh.

Does anyone find the increased glare from the glossy screens on Macbooks affecting their eyes? I haven't noticed any negative effect.

Don't most still use LCDs use florescent backlights? I would imagine those still have some flicker, or am I wrong? I would think the new LED backlights would be very easy on the eyes.

To be honest, I find I can use a CRT for a much longer period of time than I can an LCD, without feeling discomfort. A good CRT, that is.

LCDs kill my eyes.

I find the exact opposite. I have been using LCDs at home for years just to save desk space, but when I started working at my old job I was using a CRT. I guess when working I spend a lot more time focused on the screen, because I started getting massive headaches about halfway through the day. Inverting the colors on the display helped a lot, but it makes a lot of stuff just annoying plus I was doing a lot of video editing for work then.

Now that I'm back to exclusively LCDs I have no problems.

I heard once that the CRTs can cause headaches because of the large electronic magnetic field they create, whereas LCDs produce a smaller field. Dunno, it that's actually true though. Maybe it's more than just how bright or flickery (what's the correct word here?) the display is.

If you wear glasses, ones with an anti-glare coating help a lot; as does working in an environment without tube lighting.

I heard that if you're in a dark room, and you say "Bloody Mary" 10 times while looking into an LCD monitor, you'll be sucked inside Dakar's hard drive.

I have switched to LCD panel since 2003. It's so much better than looking at my iMac G3. However, I have a 19" Hitachi CRT at work, which I don't feel comfortable looking at it for a long period and I set the brightness to zero.
