small pics atm because i grabbed mine off of a auto blog site. it's a link of just one pic because i accidentally clicked post when i tried to click preview (to see if the link would work), and because i am having networking issues and i am using someone elses unsecured wireless connection for any web connection at all-it's been going down whenever i nudge out of range. so i guess it posted without my knowing, and all u guys got was a link to a rear shot, and no text. luckily you guys popped on and posted links and pix for me.

i still think the tail is too big ... looked even bigger now than i remember it...

am i the only person who thinks the nose scoop was lifted from the new viper?

eh, my big problem with the new Z06 is that they're not making it a coupe like the earlier Z06 cars.

the lines on the old coupe were miles ahead of it's hatchback counterpart.

oh well. it's fast as nobody's business, and it looks like a Corvette. that's really what matters.

Z06: "When I grow up I want to look like a Viper, coupe, Corvette, with Ferrari headlights, uhm, something. But who cares - I'm cheap and fast - that's all that counts"

Probably a good performer as long as there's no serious curves involved - not my coup of tea, though.

You got to be kidding.. the Z06 is a great handler.

And yeah, they are copying the look of the Viper.

The Viper is cooler anyhow.

That's why I said "probably" ... don't have any first-hand experience driving Corvettes. While I'd never buy it, I'd still love to take for a spin, though ... and yeah, if it has to be a real POW, I'd take a Viper over the Z06 any time of the day.

the Z06 really is a racecar with air-conditioning. pulling the old 'Probably a good performer as long as there's no serious curves involved" is stupid, esp. if you don't have "first-hand experience driving Corvettes". you could always read up on the subject tho.

oh, and you'd be fine in a non-Z06 Vette around the turns as well.

Exactly; it's the best Corvette in years. There's nothing close, especially for the money.

Old? What's the relevance of age have to do with anything? It was nothing but my vague recollection of a recent comparison test (which included a regular Vette, not the Z06, mind you - hence my use of the word "probably") I had read in some car magazine at a doctor's office. Exactly what part of my post made you think I'm trying to sell my opinion as a fact?

And why in the world would I want to read up on a car that I wouldn't want to own even if they gave it away for free? Especially when there's always someone around the corner who's just itching to proselytize the ignorant?

Let me put it this way - even if it handled like an F1 car, came equipped with jet engines, ran on Evian and made me a Latt every time I got into it - it looks like a cheap hunk of plastic and most of what's new about the "look" is a sad knock-off of a bunch of design elements that were "borrowed" from other cars and slapped onto the previous model - thus I couldn't care less.

Wrong! The new Z06 makes the same exact amount of horsepower, but weighs 300 pounds less. It also cost $10,000 less than a Viper and will have a sticker price of around $75,000.

IMHO it's terrible. Looks more like a European car than a Corvette. The yellow makes its look like a cab.

Odd. my first thought was, "oh - a Jap sports car".

The headlights *are* stolen - badly - from Ferrari, though.

No way, Japanese sports cars look way better than that. The older ones, Supra, RX-7, 300 ZX, 3000 GT, NSX and the new ones 350 Z, RX-8, EVO, etc...

Wrong. The new Z06 is faster acceleration and top end wise, and it has better handling. It will corner stronger then the new SRT viper and out gun it in the straights.

headlights just like those have been on the Vette C5-R for the past few years. They're stealing the idea from THEIR OWN racecar.

and yellow's an awful color.

and glassman, don't you have an RX-7 or something? better leave it in the garage methinks.

and effgee - I was referring to basic dissing of American 'sports cars' by everyone and their mom about handling characteristics. This, I was trying to point out, is not like some 1989 Mustang 5.0L...and then you said some words I don't know the meaning of.

and now my head hurts.

So your RX-7 is uber-hopped up and runs low 11's in the quarter-mile?

600+HP?

I know it's possible, easy. I'm just slightly doubtful. it's in my nature ; )

I won't argue that the Z06 is the best supercar for the money hands down, but the stlye is severely lacking.

The back has a little more shape to it but its still to big and clunky, Gone are the flip-up headlights to make way for bland Italian ripoffs. I like the vents aft of the front wheels and again the Z06 is an amazing sportscar but the only one that looked good since 1960 is the 69' Stingray. I'd save an extra 20 grand and go for the gaudy (but mean) look of the Viper over the very sad looking Vette.

It's got plenty of timeslips, dyno charts, video, pictures, runs at VIR, Lime Rock, the Glen, etc... I don't feel the need to justify to anyone but myself.

Well, then shame on you for automatically lumping me into that group of people. I might be a bit biased (in terms of what I would and would not buy for myself) as far as certain brands are concerned but I couldn't care less about the geography involved. I also don't give much credit to historical evidence as far as cars are concerned - or I'd have never bought a Beemer - after all, a lot of BMW's from the mid-70's up to the early 80's would begin to rust if you did so much as spit in their general direction

Nice pic!

How many turbos you have in that thing? I see one. And it looks as if you have more room to mod.

BTW guys I have seen even slower cars than the RX-7 being souped up and beating a Z06.

Just better hope the Vette doesn't have a ling.

Anyone that says the Vette can't handle is an idiot. Plain and simple.

I just wish they would have stuck with their own design. I've only heard GM fanboys say it didn't look like a Viper.

The new "Cobalt" has a Neon like rear too.

The version on the lower left.

Come on GM, at least don't make it obvious.

ARE YOU AWAKE?

====Corvette Z06 is one of only a precious few cars to have broken the 8-minute barrier for lap times at Nurburgring. Corvette testing at Nurburgring isn't just about raw speed, as the Z06 provides plenty of that. Engineers gathered important learning on tuning the chassis to enhance the poise, confidence and smoothness of response, attributes that are of great importance under the severe demands of a 14-mile course that has approximately 170 turns and virtually constant elevation changes.

"Nurburgring, at the extreme edge of the envelope, provides conditions that can't be easily duplicated anywhere else," says Hill. "But, even for the Z06, we spend considerable time ensuring we don't make adjustments that compromise the normal daily driving character of the car."====

oh, and the new one handles BETTER and is FASTER.

sorry to the haters and the misinformed.

'ey, and glassman, your car sounds nice. I raced a RX-7 to about 145 one night on a desolate highway. It was all I could do to stay within about two car lengths of his bumper.

I quit when he threw a flame over my hood. No fair. He did something NEAT annddd he beat me.

here's a nice one at the track a few months ago:

Ok, now I'm curious - that's not the max speed the two of could (in theory) go but the speed up to which the "race" lasted, right?
