is there any way to eliminate the message "are you sure you want to permanently erase items in the trash" when using Yosemite and empty the trash immediately? thx

The traditional method is to hold down Option when you select Empty Trash. I assume it still works in Yosemite.

Click anywhere on your desktop background (but not on an item), then press Command-Option-Shift-Delete to empty the trash without that message.

Finder > Preferences… Advanced > Show warning before emptying the Trash
Uncheck that one.
