Thanks.

Yeah, in the U.S. they break the seasons up into Summer and Winter/Spring "mini seasons." The rest of the world gets them all as if they were a season played out "normally." At least I think it's the rest of the world. Canadians, were they showing new eps or are you downloading them?

The last episode left me in major suspense. WHEN DOES THE NEXT COME OUT?!

Someone told me January. That would be incredibly painful to wait until.

Ya, I don't know why they did this either. When the supranos did this they totally lost me as a viewer.

I think they should have a reality show version in the mean time.

I'm just happy they're expanding six's role, even if she is a mute psychiatric patient at this point (Pegasus). Six-only-in-Baltar's-head got pretty tiresome at times.

So, where I can find one of those sexy Cylon glowheads with the kewl blinky lights? I mean the glowhead like Baltar's right hand robot has (from the original series).

I'd post a pic, but I can't even find a pic of Mr. Glowhead.

The Imperious Leader? I dunno. The Cylons have pretty clearly had a good idea of where Galactica and co have been the entire time. I think it would be odd to have them bring their leadership -- if they even have that -- into a dangerous area.

That's true. For example, Sharon is actually CGI, and Six is played by a very short black man. It's all very fake, but you can only do so much with modern special effects on a cable tv budget.

ha ha. Actually I think some of the effects are the best I have ever seen. Especially since it is low budget and partly Canadian

Heh. Actually, mostly Canadian, judging by the cast list. They have some recycled Stargate SG-1 actors too, which isn't surprising considering it is also filmed in Vancouver. eg. Boomer, Gaeta, and The Chief were in some SG-1 episodes.

BTW, how big is the budget anyway? Moore keeps saying that they stay relatively within budget, but I have no idea how much money that is. It seems to me though it isn't exactly low budget. It's just not über high budget.

No idea. Just filming in Canada makes it much cheaper plus they don't have the same type of cool locations in the US.

I assume it is under the 3 mil a DS9 Episode cost.

What do you mean by "cool locations"?

Anyways, if anyone has info on their ballpark budgets, I'd be interested. I'd also be interested in their viewership numbers. IIRC, The number of people tuning in to the miniseries was under 3 million in the US, and that was considered very good. OTOH, the syndicated Enterprise's viewership was considered abysmal with those types of numbers.

I wonder how well BSG would have done in first-run syndication.

Great show, good thread, looks like I have some of the same questions as reader50 has, without all the cross referencing by episode number.

In the commentary done for the DVD, Moore talks about the house, and says exactly where in BC the house actually is, and what a beautiful location it is. He also says that they don't go back there much anymore because of budgetary concerns.

WTF do those measurements of time on the original series mean?

Centon -second?
Centaur
Micron
Yaron - year?
Etc.

It's annoying.

But the guard is definitely not Simon, the doctor/cylon back on Caprica, if that's who you're referring to. If it isn't, I'm not sure of anyone in that episode who would fit the description of a guard, but I don't have that particular episode on my computer.

I hope they do bring back Simon at some point. He's definitely my favorite cylon, mainly for being so creepy in his single appearance. He's also the best dressed, which makes one wonder where the cylons go for tailored suits.

Speaking of Cylons.... what ever happened with Baltar's Cylon detector anyway? I don't remember? I thought they were going to test everyone. Did something derail that plan?

It never existed. Baltar was faking, originally because he needed to quickly find someone to blame after he saw a Cylon device in CIC. Baltar was the only one who could have known that it was a Cylon device because he saw one just like it in Six's handbag back on Caprica. Because of his fear of being outed as the guy responsible for making the Cylon attack so easy, he couldn't admit to any previous contact with the Cylons. So instead, he tells Adama and Tigh that Doral had been hanging out CIC looking at the device, and then once Doral is incarcerated, Baltar pretends to be able to tell that he is a Cylon from a blood test. All the other work that Baltar did in subsequent episodes on the Cylon detector was just busywork to keep the lie going.

Not true. His first one didn't work, the second one which uses the Plutonium from one of the nuclear warheads does. He clearly identifies Sharon as a Cylon (I believe in 1x08 or so), the `screen turns red'.

Yes, apparently they are. I also don't understand why Baltar doesn't simply show others how to perform the test.

The whole Cylon detector story got a bit less attention in season 2, in season 1, the last `big appearance' it had was when the senior staff was tested. Boomer's test was a `beta test' so to speak and Elen, the XO's wife was the first person to be tested `regularly', then Adama and Roslin.

After that, nobody seemed to care a lot about their great Cylon detector. I'm not sure why it doesn't get too much attention.

The rest of Grace Park is in the "Hot Girls" thread.

FYI for anyone who missed it in Canada: Space channel is playing Season One starting this weekend, episode one is today and yesterday. The mini-series was on last weekend. I'm actually going to give the series a shot, after I didn't like the mini-series.

One thing remains: this shaky-cam outerspace BS just annoys the hell out of me. What, like we're supposed to believe there's someone outside the ships just floating there, watching? Gah.

Just so people can see the difference in DVD to HD I I took the HD stream I had recorded and the DVD and took pictures with my Digital camera in the same position etc.

You can clearly see the dif in not just sharpens but colour.

Good point, and in truth her character isn't really my type anyway. I just really like her character in the context of the show.

For some reason the Six character sometimes just irritates me. I do look forward to the new Gina character. Moore and friends seem to be trying to expanding Tricia Helfer's role into something other than a figment of Baltar's deranged imagination or chip or whatever, and for that I give them a .

I'll nominate that for the understatement of the year! I think it's intentional but she's got to be the most annoying person on television! She's been slinking around pawing at Baltar and interrupting his every conversation, not to mention profoundly messing with his mind, for a year now. Talk about a one-note character. Such a blessed relief that time she suddenly was wearing jeans and a ponytail a month or so ago and stopped cooing for a brief while. I too am looking forward to her new character!

No, he didn't want to deal with it, so "Everyone passes."
Then someone (I think it was Boomer) he cleared turned out to be a Cylon, so he used that as an excuse to say it didn't work. They stopped using it after that.
