Bolivia was definitely one of the better-looking girls. Miss Japan was hot, too, and kind of hilarious in her traditional costume.

Not really seeing it in Miss Korea, though.

Miss Canada-Universe 2006 didn't win, made the top 10 though, so perhaps she won't move too far... She lives 50 metres from my house.

So what kind of Nobel prize will Miss Puerto Rico win; or maybe the pullitzer prize for most beautiful and in your mind most intelligent. I mean there is no more intelligent woman on earth than one that had breast augmentation surgery.

There's more to being beautiful than a pair of breasts. And quite a lot of guys care about personality and intelligence also. If she's super obnoxious and annoying, that will turn a lot of guys off, no matter how great her breasts are.

I'm still wondering why we have a Miss Universe competition and don't invite contestants from other planets.

Because a human female will have a hard time competing against a four breasted martian babe.

So, you're saying that just because they look great in a bikini that they have to be idiots?

That's the worst type of bigotry.

Good grief! She looks like LaToya Jackson. No, that’s not a compliment, I’m not quite that deranged.

*shudders*

First I am a dudette, and 2 you guys say because a girl looks good in a bikini they are brilliant, geniuses, except you stare at their breast all the time, I am just saying that Miss Puerto Rico because she has nice breast will win the hardest of the nobel prizes which are chemistry, physics and medecine.
Putting aside the fact that you just completely contradicted yourself there, and said the exact opposite of what I think you meant to say, you’re being (as usual) infinitely more judgemental than anyone else here. Did you see anyone here claiming that any of these women were brilliant or geniuses? No. And why is that? Because no one here (except perhaps HowEver) has the faintest idea whether or not they are in fact geniuses, or even moderately intelligent.

On the other hand, you didn’t see anyone else assuming that because they are good-looking or had breast-enlargement surgery, they are automatically shallow, unintelligent women, either. Again, why? Again, because none of us have the faintest idea whether that is indeed so.

There is nothing inherently more wrong about admiring someone for their physical appearance alone (ignoring their personality, intelligence, temper, etc.) than there is about admiring someone for their intelligence alone (ignoring all the other aspects). Both are aspects of a complete human being, and both need to be cultivated and nurtured in order to grow to proportions that are likely to be admired on a larger scale.

Shoving aside beauty pagent contestants and Miss Universes as worthless (or at least pointless) unintelligent women, and then in the same breath lauding Nobel Prize winners as outstanding specimens of the species, is just plain bigotry.

(Oh yes, by the way: the Nobel Prize is not an exam or a competition, per se. It’s a prize awarded to a person for outstanding performances within his or her field. No Nobel Prize is any ‘harder’ or ‘easier’ than another.)

Actually, you're the first one to say anything about people being "brilliant" or "geniuses" in this thread. I said a couple of contestants are hot and that Miss Japan is funny.

And secondly, nobody says "dudette" who isn't a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Any and everything you can think of. Just because one strips, does not make them stupid. Probably more intelligent, if they can use thier body without sex to pay for thier degree. I dated a stripper in Vegas that made 1200 on a slow night. No sex involved.

That would be because it's the Miss Universe competition, not the Nobel Prize competition. There also won't be any Nobel Prizes going to Olympic gold medalists. That's not the point of it.

What is the point to the competition? Is it looks only? Because I don't think the interviews did ANYTHING to show off the girl at all. If it is looks only, what a sad competition to be dubbed "Miss Universe". I would have hated to be one of the judges for this thing... it was pathetic.

It is essentially a charm competition. You have to make the judges like you most. A lot of that is looks. I don't think it's a particularly huge honor, but quite frankly, who does?

But hey, it's at least less purely looks-based than all the "Mister" competitions out there, which are 100% physique.

What's the point of any competition? Very few competitions require you to be "well rounded."

Wow. That was nauseating. Intelligence aside, it looks like she was trained by a communications expert to giggle after every line. The fakeness is glaring and disturbing.

Well, for starters, I don't think English is her first language hence why she doesn't "sound" smart. Most of those questions I'd have coming up with really good, "smart" answers on the spot. Who's my mentor... uh... I dunno.
