I've got a PowerBook G3 Series (WallStreet) model -- one of the last PowerBooks to have no FireWire or USB, though I still have SCSI and serial ports -- running Mac OS 9.0.4.

I'm getting ready to buy my very first Palm, either a IIIxe or a Vx, and I've been getting nervous reading about all of the syncing issues under OS 9. So my question is this:

Does syncing the Palm work properly via the serial cable (with the Mac adapter) under MacOS 9.0.4? Or is this configuration subject to the same problems as syncing with a USB cable? Before I drop a couple of hundred bucks, I want to make sure that everything works the way it should....

I use MacOS 9.0.4 with a Handspring Visor. The primary sync problem is due to the fact that people who want to sync with Outlook Express fail to remove the Address conduit that syncs with the Palm Desktop software. Trust me on this. Palm works best when you sync your addresses to only one program on your machine (OE or Palm Desktop). Buy a PDA. It works just fine.

According to Palm the problems only occurs when you sync over USB. You can always get by the issue the way I did, sync over Infrared. It's slower than USB but you get the benefit of it working with MacOS 9.0.4 and you don't have to lug a cradle around.
