I am considering a trade for my 1.5ghz PB 15" for a DP 2.0ghz G5.

Dual Processor 2GHz G5 tower
1.5 GB Ram
160GB SATA HDD
200 GB 7200 RPM HDD
APPLECARE FOR 3 YEARS FROM FEB 15th
Super drive
ATI 64mb video card (whatever was stock on the rev. a)

for my PB

15" 1.5ghz
768mb ram
5400rpm 80gb HD
128mb vram
combo drive

I'm a computer science major and I also plan on running a small business. Do I need THAT much power from the G5? I probably won't play that many games, just programming and email, garageband, dreamweaver, etc. If this power is TOO much for me, would you recommend a DP 1.8 or even a 1.6 G5? I was considering selling my PB and buying a low end G5 and a refurb. 1ghz 12" PB. Thoughts? Comments? Any help, advice, insults, would be greatly appreciated!!!

I prefer to have a powerful desktop for real work, and a super-portable, low-end laptop (12" iBook or PB) for when I am on the go. This works for me. I'd say do the trade and maybe throw in a refurb 12"

Powerbook for a Dual 2.0 G5... seems like a *very* good deal to me.

Ove a gig of RAM, 200 gig HD, Applecare, you would be mad not to do the deal.

That's the thing. It's too good to be true. I'm surprised he offered the trade. Have any of you ever done a trade? I'm not sure how it could be done to ensure that I don't get screwed over in the deal.

Well I agree with the person who said you would be mad not to do the deal but I also agree that you need to protect yourself.

I would certainly write up a bill of sale detailing the trade and/or make it two seperate transactions. You sell him your powerbook for x dollars and then he sells you his G5 for x dollars.

But just to make sure you get the applecare I would contact apple or an apple authorized dealer to make sure that is going to port over with the machine to you. I think it will but I would make sure.

I would certainly trade my powerbook for a Dual 2.0 G5 in a heartbeat. Too bad I don't have one to trade.

[work: G5 DP 2.0 / 1.5 GIG RAM / 160 GIG, 250 GIG HDs]
[home: G4 DP 800 / 1.5 GIG RAM / 80 GIG, 80 GIG HDs]

Over at the Macrumors page in the marketplace section. He was selling it for $2200 or $3000 w/ a 17" LCD Apple display. I figured it was too good to be true. Looks like it is.....

Yes, the AppleCare goes with the machine. AppleCare is registered to a machine via the serial number I believe. You should still phone Apple to change the ownership once the deal is done.

Maybe not! Could be legit... Do you have any feedback on the 'seller', could just be that he really wants a Powerbook!

Can you do the deal face to face? If so go for it...

However I would make sure he correct title for the goods though, be it a receipt or something.
