I don't get the whole TN thing with the new iMacs that everyone is complaining about. Were the older generation iMacs TN-screened? If the new ones look the same as the old ones do, then I'll go for the 20 inch 2.4GHz.

What's TN? Do you mean TF (thin film)?

No, I mean TN. Do a google search for "iMac TN" and see what comes up. But I was just wondering if it had worse viewing angles than the last iMac did.

The 20" has 168 degree viewing angles I think, whereas the 20" has 178. The old iMacs had better viewing angles I think.

The viewing angle on the new iMac is very narrow, and the 'fall off' between 'within angle' and 'outside of angle' is very sharp. The previous gen' screens where/are far superior.
With my previous 20" imac, I could walk round the room and hardly notice any difference in the colours, with the new one if I change the angle of my head the brightness changes dramatically, and if I stand I can hardly see any picture.
It pains me to say it, but the cheap (less than £100) LCD portable TV in the back bedroom seams to have a better pannel.

Although, when you're looking at it head-on, it seems much brighter and clearer than the old screens. I have the new and old side by side and the new one absolutely looks nicer from the front, but the whites do invert only a few degrees off-center. It seems they sacrificed viewing angle for front clarity.

I should add that I carefully calibrated the new display with SuperCal - the default profile was ridiculous.

The old iMacs had S-IPS screens, same as the Cinema Displays.

The new 24" alu iMac apparently also has S-IPS.
