Multiplayer hands on - Team Xbox
The only quote you need (it is a good article if your bored)

Microsoft as usual isn't letting any reviews come out till closer to release and these sites aren't allowed to give their score but i think this quote sums up some vague feelings...

Team Xbox - Gears of War 2 Multiplayer Hands on
A more complete package has probably never been put together. What else could you possibly ask for from a game? To cure cancer? Gears 2 won’t quite do that, but it will give you enough gameplay to keep you busy probably until the final game in the trilogy is released in two thousand whatever....Gears of War 2 might be the most complete shooter you’ve ever played. With this much gameplay, this many unlockables, that many characters, etc., etc.,

stogie and i managed to rock some campaign last night. We weren't total failures, so we had that going for us.

I didn't realize co-op was limited to two folks, though.

Well, I'm trying to figure out how to pre-order this without it being a debacle. I despise GameStop, so I won't do it there, and after what happened with GTA IV, I won't go to Amazon. Wal•Mart online looks like the best option ("Preorder Gears of War 2 and receive a BONUS $10 Walmart.com Gift Card, plus guaranteed street date delivery. Preorders will deliver on November 7, 2008.), except when I checkout, site to store lists a delivery date of mid-November, which is total BS unless they don't plan on carrying the game in stores until mid-November.

Someone shoot me.

Hehe, don't worry, I'm pretty piss-poor at it too.

I figure the only way to do decent is get the good weapons right away, oh, and know how to kill with them too.

I feel 99% certain that most players could kill me if even if they weren't allowed to attack until I started reloading.

Can anyone explain the melee system to me? It seems like once an enemy gets close enough you don't do a damn thing. I keep tapping B, but I can't tell if anything's happening.

It's really tough to land a melee, I don't think I've ever accomplished one in multi.

Oh, I dunno, I've landed a few melees....but I wouldn't consider it a main way of taking down an enemy...certainly not as important as melee in H3.

I know I've landed a few before, but so far on hardcore, I can't even tell if I'm throwing them. Maybe it's the angle, but it seems like my character is standing still as I'm jamming on the B button.

Perhaps your frantic use of the 'B' button is canceling out your melees?

Don't take my word for it, I'm playing a 10 year old PC game religiously right now.

So what's the final verdict on GoW2, Dakar, you gonna buy it?

It was easy to melee the scrubs in casual mode (saved me lots of ammo). But under the hardcore setting... forget it.

Alright, question: If the guy is too close and I have the chainsaw weapon equipped, is that why it's failing? The chainsaw seems completely random as to when it succeeds.

There's ya problem. Hold down the B button instead of just tapping it, you can hold down B forever and once you are in range of the chainsaw attack it will automatically start sawin'.

Horde mode pushed me over the edge, I believe. I'm a slut for good co-op, the more the merrier.

So is stogie getting this too? Are we gonna MacNN the hell out of the co-op when it comes out?

And if Taco is in, we got 5 for Horde mode.

Edit: Yes he is

I haven't pre-ordered it yet. But I've never had a problem finding a copy of a new game release. There are plenty of Targets, Walmarts, Best Buys, Game Stop/Game Crazy type stores in my area.

It was co-op, but yeah, pretty damn hard...cept for Raam at the end, pretty easy with two Torque Bows.

Make sure each of you have the Sniper/Torque Bow combo.

Have one guy torque him to disperse the 'bats' and the other gives him a face of sniper bullet, extra deadly when you have a super reloaded sniper handy. The other guy could just torque his face too.

I prefer to have one guy at either end (lengthwise) of the train car so he won't encroach on either of you.

I beat it on hardcore (non co op) and it was ROUGH... but it will definitely be my difficulty of choice for Gears 2 solo campaign.

Am I the only one here who mistakenly thought the campaign co-op was 4 players?

Damn you Bleszinski! I was looking forward to 4 player Co-op. WTF is Horde? Is that another game type for GoW2? I've been trying to limit myself from reading the reviews or viewing trailers.

Horde is the 5 player thing I was talking about.

More importantly, this puts back on the fence. It's never ending.
