<rant>
I am always seeing people with sigs that are way against the rules.

Goto almost any thread in the lounge or Mac OS X forums and you see someone with a sig that is over the limmits.

Most of the time they are too wide or tall. Of over the line limmits.
And most of these people have had there sigs like this for ages.

Can you please enforce the guidelines better?
Some of you have said that your doing the best you can but I just don't beleve that!

uh huh.

anyway, the moderators should either enforce the guidelines or toss them out the window. otherwise, what's the point of having them?

Well, I always abided by the 135*35 rule... then it was changed to 140*40... then nobody else abided by it, so I thought **** it.

I've only had this "illegal" sig for like 2 days... so eh...

Sue me. It's still under 10K.

one of the reasons you have seen uneven enforcement is because we've always thought we'd change the guidelines in the near future. but since it doesn't seem like that is going to be happening anytime soon, i can go on another rampage.

i'll be notifying people who need to change their signatures to abide by the guidelines. i like sig images, and i'd rather not have to disable it if a great number of people put up a fuss about it.

Disregard that IUJHJSDHE, I like a tattler! Sig guidelines are a good thing. I would also like to see them enforced better.

Hey I dident wanna tell tattle on all of you (except ca$h )
But I would not have had to if you had followed the rules!

And I wanted to show that it does not take long to get up a list of people braking the rules.

Cipher you should be ashamed of yourself!

As long as it's under 10K, I see no problem.

Most people have large screens - the smallest around are 800*600, and that still isn't greatly impacted by the images...

It all adds up. Especially since they add nothing to the discussion in a thread, they should be kept to a minimum. After all, it's the discussion that we are here for, not the clever sigs.

I beg to differ. I think his reply was pretty clever but not very subtle He has a point hasn't he? The size of the file alone isn't enough of a restriction. A really big sig that loads fast (like the one above) may not be perceived as antisocial to modem users but will still interfere with the "esthetics and readability" of the forums, if there is such a thing.
All this reminds me that I still have to work on my own sig file. Me=lazy bastard.
Mm.

Edit: I almost forgot to comment the original post. Someone should of course make sure the rules are respected. Too strict an enforcement on the other hand could lead to - unjust? - accusations of sig nazism, as it was called above. Couldn't there then be a solution where there was an automatic verification of signature file validity? Where the forum software blocks bad sigs. This would give the mods more time to moderate instead of counting pixels all day

we've come up with a new way to deal with sig violators. from now on, any sig image we see that is in violation of the size restrictions will promptly be replaced with

the user is then free to replace this image with one that abides the rules. repeat violations will result in the user's sig being locked with the violation image.

It's a step in the right direction, elzinat, but what about my suggestion to also make the guidelines a sticky in X General, and put it back in the User Centre? Not everyone goes in the Lounge.

err? like i want to see that stupid sigtag all over the place? why not just lock out their ability to have a sig image at all? or in the case of some people who will do the inevitable, their ability to post an image in a forum?

Right but you didn't need to name people. Besides what about the numerous others who you missed? Well I guess if you wanted to p i s s people off, you succeeded.

"Devil ether, it makes you behave like the village drunkard in some early Irish novel. Total loss of all basic motor skills. Blurred vision. No balance. Numb Tongue. The mind recoills in horror. Unable to communicate with the spinal column. Which is interresting, because you can watch yourself behaving in this terrible way, but you can't control it"

Remains the question: why are you so upset about a couple violations of signature guidelines? What do you care? Is it because you are the most law abiding citizen in the world and you get a rash whenever somebody commits a misdemeanor?

(you must have been a nightmare for your brothers, sisters, classmates..if you had any)

I think the better question is, why is it a problem for some people to honor the guidelines? Are people clueless or are they truely unable to express their great artistic visions within the constraints of a 140x40 pixel canvas?

Sure there was. The people who were abusing the guidlines (look up the word) were asked to make their sigs smaller. Usually mods didn't mind if it was a few pixels off here and there. That is called being anal retentive.
