Okay, catchy subject line but not quite descriptive enought...
Does anyone know of a hack for the dock that will keep windows from sliding under it? I like to keep my dock pinned to the left side of the screen, and I hate it when new windows end up under the dock--the window that opens when you click "get info" is a prime culprit.
Is there any way to quarantine this column of the screen so only the dock will live there?
Thanks,
Jacob

Applications are supposed to respect the dock, and many do. I think cocoa applications repect the dock by default, and many a carbon app has had this added.
Which program in particular are you having trouble with?

Yeah that get info window is damn annoying. I asked before and someone said to trash some prefs, but it didn't work.

not totally. some sites that auto-resize the window cause it to go under the dock....that's probably more a javascript issue but still safari should "know its limits"

Sofar, the best non-standard position for the Dock might be on the right side of the screen: this is the only workaround I can think of for the Get Info windows' problem (if you want a vertical Dock, that is)...

IE does respect the Dock, if you hide it and show it again.
