I accidentally deleted an email account in Mail.app, and now I've lost all of that account's email messages. Is there a way to retrieve these lost emails?

Thanks,

look in ~/Library/Mail to see if there's still a mailbox for that accout, if so, you may be in luck.

Also, if your account was an IMAP account, you just need to set it up again - all your mail should still be on the server.

You have only one chance. Do not use the hard drive any longer on which you had stored the messages. Don't download or install files on that disk.

Then use an undelete application like the norton utilites and try to undelete the mbox folder of the account you deleted. you have to restore these files:

table_of_contents
mbox

If you recovered them all successfully (save them on your desktop), you can start Mail.app again, recreate the account and quit Mail.
Go to your ~/Library/Mail/yourNewAndOldAccount/ folder, open the package of the mailbox you want to restore (Control-Click the icon and choose "Show Package Contents"), and replace the table_of_contents and mbox files in it with the files you rescued. Start Mail again and your Mail will be there again.

All this is only possible if your Mac has not already overwritten the two files you have to undelete. If your hard drive has lots of space left, your chances are not too bad.
