I just made the switch! Very excited and happy with my new iBook 12" so far, but I have a couple of questions.

* The software on the CDs, is all of it already installed on the machine?

* Does Microsoft Office come with it? I haven't figured out how to find all the software yet. Is Appleworks a comparable product?

Thanks!

All the software on the cds are already installed on your ibook.
There is a Office trial which lasts 30 days but that's about it.
IMO, Appleworks doesn't even come close to what Office offers.

If you don't want to spring for MS Office, there's also OpenOffice. It's a UNIX port, and runs under X11, which may not be installed on the iBook, but should be included on the system disc. It's also free.

Think Free Office is also available.

All your applications are store in the applications folder if it's not there it's not installed. Appleworks sucks, heck even word perfect office from Corel is better than Apple Works. If you can afford Office buy it if your a student buy the student edition but mind you the student edition is NOT upgradeable once the next version of Office comes out.
