770 euros for a one bedroom flat in Paris. Nicely located but the street and first couple floors are full of prostitutes. But I've dealt with worse in Brooklyn...

when we rented last winter, it was $1510/mo for 2BR 1BA in Newton, MA in a duplex. Wash/dry in the basement. Nice yard. Free parking.

So glad we bought. However, our mortgage also sucks. Wanna have a thread on that? I'll win that contest too.

$900/month for a ~500 square foot studio in a Chicago high rise. After the signing incentives they offered (free first month, discounted second) it ends up at more like $800/month.

nah, at that price you must be on Beacon Street, or South End. I imagine it's even more pricy on the Hill.

Riverside, IL: 1 BR + DR, heat included, 2 off-street parking spots: $675. Would be $650 without the extra parking space. Laundry facilities on-site. Cats allowed.

Santana Row in Santa Clara / San Jose.

1 bedroom/1 bathroom costs me $2000/month unfurnished. It's considered the nicest apartment complex in the city, so I'm not complaining.

San Diego market is insane. I am renting my previous home to a friend of the family for $1900 per month, and that is undervalued when compared to comps just down the road.

Four bdrm, 2.5 bath, 1800 sqft.

Well, I'm not renting as we own our home, but we have two homes we rent out:

Sarasota, Florida: Old Victorian home from 1926 with hardwood floors and pool, waterfront on a little river that leads out to the Gulf of Mexico, 1800 sq. feet and good-sized yard and I pay for landscapers to cut the lawn and take care of the place once a week. The rent we charge there is $2000 a month. A dentist leases it. 3 bedrooms.

Seattle, Washington: House on Capitol Hill overlooking Lake Union and the University of Washington across the water. Old home (1911) with hardwood floors, two stories with a little clerestory studio (that has 360-degree view) on top and has 2300 sq. feet, tiny yard on a sloping hill, but beautiful views and completely restored. The rent we charge is $2800 a month. Two professors live there -- they split the rent. 3 bedrooms.

We haven't raised the rent in either place, despite different tenants being in there over the years, in about 6 years.

It seems to me that with all things considered that people are paying as much for rent as they would for a small house.

Both of those homes were bought as decrepit dumps and we took time off to physically repair them ourselves (as much as we were able to) and restored them. It was a lot of work and effort, but it was worth it.

i get to commute to work on foot. 20 minutes max. that makes living in an apartment worth it. plus having the apartment amenities (a fully stocked athletic equipment room namely) is nice.

the region of the country + how close the places are to cities has a whole lot to do with it. if i could suffer a 30 min commute i could have a place for two thirds of what i pay now (or less), but convenience == money to me.

When I lived in San Jose, I payed $1610/month (not including utilities, even water/sewage) for a 2 bedroom 1 1/2 bath.

Moved to Sacramento, now I pay $750/month for 2 bedroom 2 bath. Utilities still not included, but it's a lot cheaper than San Jose.

But I miss San Jose a lot, I love living there.

(And that's California, folks.)

I rent a two room 900 square foot apartment loft on one side of the upstairs of this house:

Its a really nice 1920's house in a beautiful neighborhood just north of downtown Oklahoma City. It has gorgeous hard wood floors throughout, lots of windows and a gas fireplace. The loft setup makes it so that either of the two large rooms could be a bedroom or living room. Just depends on how you set it up.

My rent costs $325/mo and I pay gas and electric.

The house itself is a two-story, 3,800 square foot house.

you loved the smog, the traffic, the high cost of living, $2 a gallon of gas, traffic, the mayor (Bill Clinton wannabe), the lack of entertainment (besides downtown), the horrible Public Transportation, crazy drivers, traffic, and the tech museum?

$1374 for a studio in NYC. Thankfully it's rent-stabilized. If not it would probably be going for more than $2000.

Down under, in Brisbane, my girlfriend and I are renting a rather large 2 bed 2 bath room in cathedralplace.com.au for just about 1200 AUD a month, or about 900 USD. It's OK but considering we're poor poor (poor) students it really isn't THAT low.

check the website out though, love the place!
