Hi,
I was wondering if you ppl. could help me test the speed on my server by downloading a simple quicktime movie and posting back you peak speed and where you are physically located.

I'm doing this because I'm offering the server to mirror the Mac version of a certain open-source software, however, from the Netherlands I get crappy speeda, so I want to check if it has a crappy link to the Netherlands or the whole International link sucks (from here I get around 500-700 KB peak).

http://www.salto.cl/~sarc/video/beer_medium.mov

Any help appreciated.
Thx

Big improvement...

up from 9.64KB/sec

That's a quite tolerable length of time to wait considering the filesize. Faster than needed for streaming playback, right? (assuming the movie length is more than 2min 30 sec)

It peaked at 98.9K on a T3 in Kansas City, MO. It's averaging around 80K, not too bad.

ok, thx for the help, once again.
Apparently the server's bandwith has a "work-day" penalty. Anyway, the software I mentioned in the first post is about 5 megs. so it should work fine as a mirror.

Hi guys, me again.
Could you test the speed again today ?

so far: the speed sucked during the day, rocked at night. it should rock 24 hours a day. If I get crappy international speeds today, again, I can be a lot nastier with tech support, or else, it probably was some technical problem that was fixed what gave the crappy downloads during day time yesterday (unlikely though).

usually sustained around 18 KB/sec, started slowly around 8-10 KB/sec, shot up to 68 KB/sec at about 3 quarters through, then down to 25ish.
750k connection, UK
-this was using IE. Is there an option in Safari that I've been overlooking to show the speed?

its going pokey now at around 10 k per second max 80 k its probably a bad international connection that gets weighed down during the day. Last time it was late at night so no bandwidth problems on your end(or international end).

Option-Click the time remaining and it will switch to speed. Pretty silly 'feature' if you ask me. Other browsers show both.

Dowloaded the movie. Started around low 30s and fluctuated up to about 60 until it was halfway done. From there, speed was about 55 the rest of the time.
