I made a new GUI element that fits in nicely (at least I think so) with Aqua on OS X.

Its basically a colored bar with an anti-aliased text label that has a nice 3D shaded effect. The length, overall color and text label and label positioning are all user-defined.

I have seen these types of "color bar" elements in other apps and decided I wanted one too - so I made one. I used the list view header as a model, but its not a direct "clone" of anything already out there.

The API is very simple and has a variety of options for basic setup for now. If you don't see a need or don't care, please don't waste my bandwith downloading it or replying with do-nothing comments.

This may eventually evolve into a clickable control of various types found in OS X apps of the commercial variety already and not generally available to us mere mortal ShareWare authors. Please no feature requests - I am getting a programming job for a commercial app and won't have much free time.

Enjoy (or not).

Techie: available as a PEF and Mach-O static link-in library, uses QuickDraw for now (to also run on Classic Mac OS) and is very simple to use. Free for use or reuse (REALBasic plugin or whatever) for now, no sources sorry. Still early design and may change. Use at own risk blah blah. If you dont understand any of this thats not my problem, I'm not a programming teacher. Nothing nefarious in there I promise.

Sample usage web page. Did I mention it can use theme colors or custom specified colors for the gradient?

D/L: download options.

Sorry to be rude, but... if you're looking to create a grouped set of controls in a window, why not just follow the HI guidelines for how to do so, instead of creating new controls? That bar, while pretty, looks like something that should be clickable (i.e. and do something meaningful when clicked) instead of just being a group header.
